Bottom Bracket

The drive side will have the whole bb shell, then the non drive side has a plastic/metal cup.

Its easier to remove the driveside first then remove the non drive side cup.

There is a how to on this somewhere in the nmc, although when putting it back in, don't use a tonne of grease.

a ratchet is easiest...and obviously you need the right tool. Make sure you get the isis version if it's isis (and the shimano pattern)...otherwise it won't fit (axle too fat/long..)

take off the non-drive side first...unscrew by turning anticlockwise (bike upright). Then the drive side turning clockwise (i'm sure that's right...they tighten by turning towards the back end of the bike when it's upright)...

put it in with a wee bit of grease...and clean it while you're there...

job done.

So it doesn't loosen itself when you pedal I guess

But if it was normal thread on the right and opposite left that'd make sense, 'cos then it'd be tightening with the pedal motion. However, opposite on right means that it would loosen if you pedalled, even though it woudln't anyway...
