MesaMan
Guys........I've only been riding about 5mths and as such am still learning all the time. This "newness" keeps me motivated, we ride with some guys who are totally amazing and they too seem to be "bored". However they always ride the same place and perform the same moves, in contrast to us newbs who are trying new stuff all the time. My suggestion is to try learning some new stuff...add some flair into moves, if you're not able to do it at first then you'd probably want to stick to what you know and can do. Once you get it though you'll feel that enjoyment again and it might bring back some motivation etc.
ManxTrialSpaz
'i feel I may get bored of it within a few years as me and Kris only have about two riding spots. At least one of them is big, as in one mile of promenade.I've found that the closer I have been to getting my trials bike, the more people I've seen on one. Actually, now I come to think of it, we should get together properly, even if there are only five people I can think of, me and kris have only been with one at a time...........Yu're probably just bored because of the weather, just think about summer, wehen you'll be riding without a shirt on. petit_pablo
I got bored lost all my enthuisiasm a few years ago.I wasnt improving, i wasnt enjoying riding and a few people stopped riding.Thats was around 5 years ago. Ive been back riding for about 4-5 months now and loving it. Its true absence does make the heart grow fonder!I found i quickly got back to my old level of riding and having learnt a few new techniques, and a new bike, im now a much better rider than i was before.Im enjoying my riding now and come next summer will be out joining up with a few rides to explore other towns n cities. spider
this is what i do:once in a while i switch parts to make my bike different. this is how i dont get bored.front disk, front v's, higher fork...this week i changed back to my old echo es4r.the trurh is that, after 8 months on a planet x alibongo (wich helped me to learn side hops and better on the natural stuff) this frame can fly! its 3 years old but still in a mint condition! side hops arn't easy as the alibongo, but gapping and bunny hopping is way better (i'm 5'6).untill 2 years ago i was the only trials rider in israel, but now i have 4-5 friends that started trials and thats good.winter is not too long...wish i had more time to ride... in trials you cant get bored. its dynamic, and you allways improve.other way of not getting bored is going to an other town, other locations.have a nice week... club_card
Every winter this topic seems to pop up, it´s just the weather that makes you feel like quiting
Luke Drewery
I go through stages of being bored and feeling as if my riding is going nowhere, but I stick through them and because of that I carry on getting better and better. Just stick with it, you will regret it if you quit because when you go back you will have lost your balance and strength (unless you go to the gym or play other sports) and will feel even worse about riding then before. skandy32
I think most of the problem is down to the winter! Personally this happens to me everyyear, not just in trials - but every area of mtbing. I Personally deffinatley find it good to change between disciplines, so mayeb a street bike is an idea? At uni i've only got my street and trials bikes with me, and i'm desperatley waiting to get home for xmas to ride something muddy and different!! Its been 3months riding concrete and GOD DAMMIT im bored!! - so if you've only ever really riden trials, i can see this as where the boredem mite be coming from....Possibly a phase....? - every now and then i have "ride trials 26hours a day cos i love it" phases, then suddenly changing to "i'd rather sleep till 4pm that get up, either fix my bike or ride". ??? Thats my views anyway matey.....
ben_travis
I f**kING LOVE TRIALS RIGHT NOW> I am no different to this tap hook sidehop this that and t'other, but i constantly want to progress, whether this means do 50" sidehop or trying onto thin objects I LOVE IT.sad as it sounds, im having more fun now than i ever have been. The pissing rain is soo much fun, if you go out with a positive attitude its great fun. So what my brake slips and tyres slip, but the necessity to push myself is huge.im looking forward to the bristol and leeds street rides over chrimbo, they should be good fun. Have some lines i want to do in both places, and also in Hull.meeting up with new people is greatmeh. im having a great timealso ride some freaking natural rather than street, if u aint got none, find some. its much more fun than street
munkee
I havent ridden in umm.. hmm i cant even remember when i last touched my bike. I just got bored of it.. its so.. .. i dont know you just got stale.. so i decided to join the gym. Right now thats pretty much what im addicted to. Dont be afraid to try something different.. like.. people here go on about yea i switched to bmx... but .. thats still a bike. Your not just destined to be on two wheels you whole life.. go out there and find something totally random and go for it. If there was anywhere near here.. id love to do rock climbing
Davetrials
oh my god! Lads its not that bad! You just have to get out more, ride new places with new people, trials isnt all about beeing the best. Like in any sport there are physical, mental and social reasons for doing it.Maybe join a local trials club and get involved in some competitions - they're great fun and you can really see yourself improve each month.OR maybe go on some big rides organised, look in rides and locations instead of being stuck to trials chat and sites vids and pics.OR maybe get into a demo or make your own and show off your skills with yours mates which also well fun.Just keep having fun! Trials will always be a laugh! YOU HAVE TO TRY NEW THINGS! WE ALL DO! SteveId love to go to rides but i cant due to not having a car. Olly C
lack of people to ride with is driving me towards bmxI haven't really been going off trials, I just don't seem to have much free time to ride.BUT when I do its the same with all you guys, the same spot I've been riding for 3 years, no-one at all to ride it with, not much new stuff to try, and I've had some very near harsh falls recently. None of this de-motivates me because I still just love being a part of the trials scene, I just spent another £400-ish on bike stuff even with all the problems I mentioned.I did get driven to ride bmx because my friends said they'd like to ride it, so mondays and stuff I've been going to a local park and its pretty fun, different. Luckily even though my bmx is top spec it just feels so nasty, heavy and short in comparison to my trials bike that its hard to think up and do the cool tech street stuff I think up when riding trials, I don't know whats wrong on my bmx, possibly the frame in some ways I don't mind the weight it just feels a horrible ride most of the time One thing I've personally found is that if you in the same position as me, small local places to ride alone with not much chance of making it to group rides as you have no transport and its so far away the train costs $$$, that having a long "go-big" frame like a Python/Pitbull or frame along those lines that I find it harder to do the little things that make trials fun, so I've opted to get a slightly shorter frame so I can bounch and jump about easier. If you have a bike thats maybe shorter and fun to ride then you can try adopt the TrialNoir style of riding instead where it doesn't matter if your on huge group rides pulling the biggest moves you can enjoy yourself with the little things you accomplish.Thats my opinion anyway.Olly.
