Hi, I'm going to do a complete reformat of my PC soon but need to back p all the music and videos i want to keep.

At the moment I'm looking at buying a big load of writeable CD's to do it with but is their anything quicker than this? linking it directly to a different computer or something?

'because at the moment I'm looking the burn 25GB of stuff onto 700MB cd's :$

When me and mike did it we firewired everything to a laptop seamed to work well ;) .

Or you could always burn it to dvds but if you don't have a dvdrw then :$lol.

But when you reformat why not make a 30gb partition in case you need to reformat again? Then you wont be faced with the problem.

Or if ur running xp try that files setting transfer wizzard thing; not a clue how to use it just spyed the name arround.

Sam..

Buy yourself a dvd-rw for about £30 bosh it in and burn it onto dvds.

How large is your hard drive? Partioning it into 2 would be a good option. My 160gb is split into

C: 25Gb For Windows/programs/games

D: 125Gb For Documents

That means i can just reformat the c: everytime i reinstall windows keeping everything on my d: :$

See if anyone you know has an external hard drive you can borrow for a day or two, and put it all on there, would be much quicker than burning stuff onto cd.

As the other have suggested, partition your drive when you re-install windows then you wont have to deal with backing everything up next time you do it. I suggest at least a 30GB partition for windows and programs as games aren't getting any smaller now they come on DVD's, I personally use a 40GB partition for windows and all my programs.

How do i make a partition?

Go into the setup like you do whilst reformatting and do it from there?

Got my hand on a friends external hardrive for a day now so im sorted (Y)

There should be an option in the Windows Xp Setup... If you talking about how do you make a partition on a HDD While still on your original operating system... Go on Admin Tools in Control Panal, Then click Computer Managment... Then click Storage drives then disc managment... There will be and option on there if you right click... I think you have to have two HDDs to do that... Other option will be fine!
