mikey23
Hi everyone, i have a bit of a problem on my hands. A few days ago the axle shaft on my chris king classic broke :) my local bike shop quoted me $340 AUD to replace it :) i was lookin on the net and i found that i could get a new hope mono for a bout $215 (including shipping), however i would need a wheelbuild and most likely new spokes (not sure about that though) My dad is trying to pressure me into fixing my king, but im a bit strapped for cash. Is the hope mono any good for trials and which option do you think i should go? Thanks, Michael
deanie-b
I said something along the same lines as this yesterday. Money Buys Quality, We all know That Kings are incredibly strong!, Thats not to say that Mono's aren't, But i would favour the king :) , Your dads right Edited December 7, 2005 by deanie-b
Concussion
I'm sure you will hear Hopes are strong/great for trials...as I have myself. Not got one yet so can't give direct advice. If I had a CK though, I'd try my best to get it fixed considering the amount they cost and the mythical engadement! Good luck either what ever you decide :)
wolfie
I am currently running a Hope mono hub on the rear and I can’t fault it. However, if I were you I’d try and get the Chris hub back in working order. Chris king are extremely strong and the engagement is much better. nmt_oli
The hope is a great hub, but will work out about the same price to get it built up with new spokes as fixing the king. have you tried ringing king up, as there warranties are fantastic and they might do you a nice deal if you send it to them to get it fixed. might be worth upgrading to the HD steel axle as well, will be stronger. trials rules
Ive had a hope mono for about a year now and i think it's pretty good. It very rarely slipped until recently and when i took it apart i found to of the pawls had mysteriously disappeared :) but i put new one in and it works fine. i would reccommend one but firstly i would try to get the king fixed.
