Rear Tyre Advise Needed

Hi there people.

Sold my B26D and got a lovely Leeson 660 full build on the way (Y) just after some rear tyre advise for the new setup.

I have always ridden with a IRC elgato on the back and usually a mythos on the front. I also tried a continental traction pro (i think) front and rear which had impressive grip but had a few problems with pinch flats riding with lower pressures.

Just wondering if there are better trials tyres out there other than the IRC el gato.

Like everyone im after loadsa grip but keeping it light at the same time.

Anyhelp would be most appreciated.

Cheers

most tyres are better than the el gatos

Get yourself either:

Maxxis highroller/minion 2.35 super tacky (or slow reezay for even more grip!)

Kenda blue groove 2.3 stick-e (not quite as grippy as the maxxis but really nice feel)

I am sure there are other good tyres out, but I know these tyres are good and highly reccomend them.

Noones mentioned michellin yet :)

Personally i'm a big fan of michellin 24s for the rear.... I've never really had a maxis on for long, so its probably not a good comparison.

Front for me is either a panaracer fire xc or michellin xc jobbie (as light as poss) ..... or any other xc tyre that i finished using on the xc bike really. I've used tioga tyres on the front - but found them very thin and pinchy!

Looking at the bikepics gallery could give you a good idea of what to use! Theres quite a few maxis tyres in there!!

cheers for all the help people

think il go for the maxxis minions slow reezay on the back and the high roller on the front.

chain reaction website just went down never seen that before! :)

nice choice :D you'll notice a massive increase in grip and then confidence

the sites working fine for me :)

get a single ply maxxis on the front :)

do you mean the high roller dh single ply??

im after a 2.1 tyre for the front ideally, also is it preferable to have a soft compound on the front if so what tyre is best?

apologies for all the stupid questions just wanna make sure i get the best setup for the new bike :)

I know i prefere a softer front tyre but i'm a mainly natural rider i'm not to sure what street guys prefere.

I'd have a slow reezy High roller on the front single ply 2.1 would be nice and then a 2.35 Minion in Super tacky compound on the rear :)

No need to apologies it's what the forum is here for.

yeah thats what i meant, most people don't need the extra puncture portection on the front, because you ain't slamming it into pointy walls and stuff

unless your really aggressive with your taps. :)

i'm gonna go for a maxxis for my next tyre as well mate, my michelin comp 24 is seeming a bit treadless and quite heavy for my liking

El Gato's are pinch city!

You want a Maxxis in the back, or possibly a Michelin Comp 24.

Maxxis wise, you'll want either a High Roller or a Minion. High Roller is more streety and Minion is more grip orientated, so would suit natural. Which compound depends on the kind of rider you are, a lot of fast rolling stuff and you'll want Super Tacky, if you're after pure grip, then you'll want Slow Reezay (Or is it the other way round?)

Peace out

well i'm currently using tryall tyres and to be honest they dont suit my riding at all because they lack the sidewall grip which most tyres have and with me mainly sidehopping lets just say i dont particularly love them, however they do have lots of advantage like they dont clog up with mud, every other aspect of grip is really good, they are light and there bouncy, if you like me want all over grip and dont mind too much about natural conditions deffo go for the maxxis :P dont completely rule out tryall though because they are pretty good

I have had two maxxis tyres on the back, a minion super tacky and Im currently running a high roller super tacky. Both awesome tyres for street and natural. The minion does drag more on street though as people have mentioned. I run a try-all stiky tyre on the front which is a 2.1 and its awesome. Its currently bald and still has loads of grip in the wet, its light too. I think when these tyres a knackered Ill just get the same again, maxxis and try-all-top tyres. :P
