deadly venom
I recently read that the chain tension required on 26 inch bikes does not allow for the derailleur to function properly. Is this True? If it is true, how do riders in Competitions shift while in a section? Ride on, Deadly Venom
Matt_Tupman
Depends how you set it up, as standered yes they are fully functional eg you've got more that one gear but if you start playing with locking it out and cut cages then shifting gets a little bit dodgy but i've found in the past even with these mods I could still shift efectively (Y) hope that help
MSM
"how do riders in Competitions shift while in a section?" I suspect that they don't shift gears whilst in sections. The bike needs to have a certain number of functional gears just to get allowed to compete in certain competitions, but the gears are probably setup to give the best chainline and necessary tension in the riders usual trials gear, the other gears need to be present to make the bike legal for such events, but they are unlikely to be used in a section. shovel
i've made up a six speed cassette with an eight speed road cassette and some extra spacers, seems to be what most people do my mech is locked out but i can still shift between all six gears which is quite handy for commuting between riding spots, my riding gear is 1st and i get a good chainline and the chain is quite short so it doesn't slap around :ermm:
deadly venom
I have noticed that a lot of riders are using single speed instead of multiple speed but I thought that some riders did use them in sections. I guess I was wrong. So I guess there really is no need for multiple gears if your not going to compete. Several people have recommended the putting the ENO freewheel on a DMR revolver hub. It looks like this is the way to go. But, if I can't find a Revolver hub would the White Industries ENO single speed eccentric and non eccentric hub be a good choice? And how about the Paul Word single speed hub? Ride on, Deadly Venom Edited December 3, 2005 by deadly venom
IOLO
how do riders in Competitions shift while in a section? riders NEVER intentionally shift, mechs are on the way out, the sooner comp rules realise this the better single speed is now looked past in most comps, inc the brit rounds, but not the worlds! iolo.
