mat hudson
basically, im thinking 6th form aint my bag. i really fancie getting a shite 9-5 job in a crap place/super market and just moving around and meating new people. so far, the places i have thought about are. abba Llandudno, rhyll, somwhere up there(i have family up there. not to mention already knowing most of the riders.) ormskerk, liverpool area(i have family there too.) or somwhere south wales. i currentley live in the center of wales so im starting off in a nice central base. i would not neccessarily be just going somwhere in wales, but please dont say "oooh come here, its the best". any constructive comments welcome. Mark W
I thought of doing that, and it wouldn't have worked out financially for me. You don't have any job atm, so it would work out even less for you (Y) Basically, accomodation would be your first stumbling block. Typically, you'll get asked to put down a deposit, which you won't have the money to do. You'll then have to pay rent, and for bills and for food and so on, so you're looking at a sizeable chunk of money per week. This'll pretty much put-paid to doing much else, if you're planning on just getting a job at something like a supermarket/somewhere like that. Like I said to you Mat - you're out of the honeymoon period of 6th form where it's all new and fun and games. It's now the time of year that people are doing UCAS forms and working relatively hard, so it's going to seem less fun. It's well worth just dealing with the fact that you're not having fun 24/7, sticking with it, getting the qualifications and then leaving. GCSEs don't really mean shit unless you can show real aptitude by having a brace of A*'s/A's, so it's definitely worth sticking around for. What do you do in your free lessons atm? Prawny Baby
basically, i know 6th form isnt for me. i know you say that, and you may truely believe it..... i HATED every SINGLE minute of my A-levels, i really hated school and everything that it stood for! but i kpet thinking about the long term, and where i wanted to end up.... so after 2 years of doing the BARE MINIMUM, not doing a SINGLE bit of work at home during the whole 2 years, missing about 40% of all my lessons.... i sat my A-levels. i ended up with a C and 3 D's, which is SO FAR below what im capable of its just not funny.... so i essentially failed. but meh. such is life.... i didnt put too much effort in, didnt cost me anything, so im not fussed. i somehow scraped into portsmouth uni on a construction engineering course, which im absolutely loving! im working hard, having a great social life, and generally loving every minute of it.... the two nasty horid years of A-levels i took were most CERTAINLY worth it! just give it a shot.... if your in the first year.... youve not really had long enough to give it a proper go, and if your in the 2nd year, thers only 6 months left till its all over! stick at it! mat hudson
im in the first year, at the moment im predicted c's could easily get b's maybe even a's and have achived d's and e's. woop. i just cant be bothered with it. for all i know i could waste 2 years get shite grades and then end up doing th same as im wanting to do now, just in 2 years time. Mark W
So if you're sticking around here, why not just do your A-levels and have an evening job? I had two jobs throughout my A-level years, and it meant I had a constant flow of money and I've still left with an ABC and a D, so I've got some qualifications to help me get into uni next year? It's always good to have a backup plan, so why not just do the A-levels? You've already started doing them, so you might as well finish them. mat hudson
all this telling me to stay in school really isnt what i was looking for to be honest. can people stop poting it.
Mark W
If you didn't want to hear advice from people, why put this sorta post up? (Y) Seriously Mat, it makes sense. It's just not viable to just move round places. You wouldn't have much freedom at all, and with no car or anything you're largely f**ked anyway. Bear in mind you'll most likely end up with a 6month contract minimum with anywhere you live (and that deposit). Also, you can't guarantee you'll get work anywhere ('specially without anything other than GCSEs), so you might get stuck in one place more than you'd like. Equally, if you do find work somewhere but only stay somewhere for a short space of time, it'll look shit on your CV just like it'll look shit if you've not got much experience (by that I mean lie and not put it on). If you have a trail of staying at jobs for a short space of time, companies are just going to think "Why bother with him if he's just gonna piss off somewhere else?" But either way, no car + no money + no experience = not so good. But you don't want to hear that. Sooooo, go for it Mat. I'm sure somehow it'll possibly turn out to be not 100% shit. Mark W
Oh yeah, don't forget at the moment your Mum does a lot of your cooking, shopping, clean and so on? So you'd have to take care of all of that too, meaning the non 9-5 part of your day will be taken up by that quite a bit? Not to mention all your money too (Y) Don't forget as well that you'll have a Hell of a lot less freedom if you're living on your own and working 9-5, meaning a shitload less scope for 'fun' than you have at sixth form where you've got less responsibilites and where you're living at home and have everything done for you? Will Arnold
ok, if you were gunna leave school (don't because mr.t says so (Y) ) then i think you should get a job in a big chain company (like hellfrauds) and then get a transfer job to another one of its shops (Y) ta Will
-RoBBo-
I hate 6th form too. Well, I actually like the social plusses of it, like being with mates all the time, which you wouldnt get if you quit or moved. Only downside is the amount of work, but i've realised i need A levels to even think about getting anywhere half decent when i'm older. So just trying to stick with it i suppose and think long-term. Who know's, you might get lucky and think of an invention when your living in your 1 bedroom flat minus a bed because you can't afford one, and become filthy rich (Y)
Brisa
Why not stick it out, I know you probably want freedom etc but with the A lvels you will have something to fall back on.. You can also go to uni and go as far away as you like... if you have the a levels to get you into one. I am just in the last year of my a levels, no intention of going to uni at present but if I want to I know I have that option with the grades im currently sitting on without even sitting the rest of this year. Its nice to be able to if you ever want to... It will save time later on doing some cack access course when your 25!
