ian
hi there, i have an acs that i want to make into a fixed cog, do i just have to weld the moving part to the lockring? just so it stops freewheeling oviously doing this when it is engaged. cheers ian
Mr Motivator
Tack anything that spins, so yeah, what you said. Getting a fixed cog would be lighter and neater, but if money is tight, then weld it up. Only if you can weld though, or know someone that can. IOLO
yep, push to engaged, than put 4 tacks ish on the spinny gap bit,, just dont melt any threads. remember the strength of the weld is only to stop it back spinning, if your scared of the welding goin wrong,, then do it anyway..lol OR dip the whole thingy in degreaser a few times, dry it all off and fill with super glue then again engage and hold.. then start trying to get your fingers unstuk before putting it on your bike RESPECT!! iolo. poopipe
doesnt sound all that safe to me - you can get a fixed cog thatll fit on your cranks for about £12 still, they're your teeth (Y)
ian
nah my dad can weld so its alright, cheers for the help lads
Siders77
It's ironic how you always have a go at the new members for not searching when you don't even do it your self! http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....showtopic=65409
ian
right i could be stupid but you havent realised what i said in my first post, i want to weld my acs up so it is a fixed cog, not stop the lock ring coming off
Siders77
Basically the same thing?
ian
nah cause your post shows up to lock the lockring on so it doesnt come loose and i want to weld the acs completely up so it doesnt freewheel anymore.
Siders77
No, I mean it's the same principal. You're only welding a bit further up.
Will Arnold
No, I mean it's the same principal. You're only welding a bit further up. its a completely different thing mate, its like making a cake and putting the flour on as a garnish intead of in the mixture :- (Y) anyways, i would advise to wack a couple of tacks on the backside of the freewheel too, just to be safe? downhill_rob2@hotmail.com
Im pretty sure the glue would work, alsong as that the freewheel doesnt work its self a little loose (enough for it to freewheel back even 1mm) Cause, all your doing to the freewheel is making it stop spinning backwards, because its allready engaged.... duncanshaw@scotland
For all the hassle and extra weight you should just buy a fixed cog for it.
