narrowbars
Will 39 16 gearing be ok on my bmx wha will it be like. Chers matt It will be ok but a little loose. You may also have to use a half link in your chain depending on the length of the dropouts on your frame

ScotchDave
Quite literally a half link, you ever seen a shadow conspiracy chain, they're made totally of half links, if you don't get me check on alans bmx.
011001000110010101110010
Are half links actually any good these days, I've only heard bad things about them.

ScotchDave
Fine on a BMX, loads aren't as sudden or large.

shovel
25:11 feels really good, my friend now runs that on his bmx he runs a shaddow conspiracy half link chain, they're very good for getting your chain length perfect
Si-man
I've got 30-12, is a mint gear! Good for when you dont uite have enough speed up ramps, can still pedal (unlike if you have super hard gearing)
TheMunn
I love the classic 36 16, it rocks !
Michael Hardman
25:11 is a bit easy. I run 25:9 with a half link in for good measure and ahve my rear whee slammed. Good BMX gear is something with a ratio of around 2.7ish.
Mark W
33:12, slammed in the dropouts (13.75" stays, apparently...). Feels A-OK to me, to be honest...
Ben Cox
on my bmx ive got 14:30 but it feels abit slack, what size front cog do you think i should get? Ben
Mark W
Something bigger than 14t :P Nah, if you've got 14 rear then 39 for the "proper" BMX gearing or 36t for a touch lighter.
hulltrialser
ive got 36:16 but will be getting a cassee hub so i can run some thing a little smaller on the front. Ben
BONGO
Surely if you are riding a bmx, you want to have it set up like a bmx, so do the gearing properly and you'll improve better.... :P "official/proper" bmx gearing... 44/45:16 39:14 36:13 33:12 30:11 28:10 25:9 These are commonly agreed to be the standard gearing an all give almost the same gearing...44:16 & 33:12 are IDENTICAL for example. Try to stick to these, or only 1 toothe out when needed, and you will keep riding your bmx like a bmx and improve. (fakies are a lot harder at speed with smaller gearing.) john

Houseface
try 36:15 :P i run that and it has enough power to go fast but loose enough for good acceleration :) steve.
Ben Cox
anyone got a cheap 36t front ring then? i will swap for a 30t kink one Ben
Lawnmowerman
I run 28-10, seems like a nice gear but i wouldn't mind something a bit stiffer
Michael Hardman
/\/\/\ Agreed, Im looking at maybe going to 28:9 if it wasnt so much of an effort to change a chainring, which it is as the cranks were a bitch to put on Im not doing it again.
