Dai the Socket
Helfrauds haven't been owned by boots for around a year. They are a private company hence there on the stock market. Actually they're a public limited company, hence they're on the stock market. Private Limited Companies are LTD's and have shares sold to family / friends / managers. PLC's are floated on the stock market for anyone over 18 to buy and sell shares in.
PaRtZ
Ive heard the one near bangor is useless... :ermm: only jkin. Leave them alone, they're not Trials bike specialists you know... Even my LBS which sells trials bikes doesn't have a clue about water + tar etc. etc. cos no of them do it. If you can do better, than do better :ermm:
stevecoust
Ok. i have had to take my bike to halfords and have my cables cut down, front wheel trued (stupid car), and front disk reblead. And they took my rear maggie apart for some reason. Anyways i got a phone call today saying i need a new maggie cus i have water in mine and if i want it fixed the ywill have to strip it clean it dry it with special stuff. and i should always use maggie fluid. i found thi sso funny because there are so many people who use water, and i find it better. Ow plus they said my front brake was fine evan though it leaked over the floor lol. :) retards isnt the word (Y)

street trials rider
i have to agree that some halfords are retarded.... but thats just it... SOME, not all yes i do work in a halfords, but i know what i'm doing, and i know what its like to have something done to your bike which you didnt ask about, then find out your getting charged massively :) i'm the mechanic in the store i work in, everyone else who i work with in the bikehut is also very well into the sport (unlike some of the tards mr halford employs to work with bikes) any repairs get directed to me, any sales i direct to the other lads.... if you know the person who is fixing your bike knows what he's doing, then fine, otherwise learn to fix it yourself.... the tools aint that expensive for most common bike repairs, only stuff like BB threading/facing or a headset press, etc..... they're the expensive tools, which you will RARELY use (and thus dont need) Edited December 6, 2005 by street trials rider
JonCongreve
I would say don't diss Halfords cause i work there, but they're not really a bikeshop and couldn't give a damn anyway.
street trials rider
you get normal highstreet stores with bike sections, then you get the bit more "clued up" (usually) Bikehut stores
Shaun H
You need to come to our Cheltenham store, best Bikehut in the area (saleswise...) and everyone, except the fat little woman who has somehow managed to become mananger of Bikehut without ever touching a bike.....ever, who works there is well into mountain biking and knows what they're talking about generally, and now I work there they all understand trials (not that there's a massive riding community here :) ). It's just the general shiteness of Hellfrauds that holds us back... Noone except the "specialist" can do repairs so the rest of us are stuck telling them to go to Leisure Lakes (dickheads) or Williams (excellent guys just not really clued up on performance stuff) unless it's a puncture repair or something quick/simple. If anyone gets the chance to work in a Bikehut that's upstairs from the rest of the store, or generally out of view and the guys there aren't tossers go for it, it has to be the biggest doss job in retail. £4.85 an hour at 16 to do pretty much bugger all for 10 hours a week with good mates jus having a laugh. Mark W
I would say don't diss Halfords cause i work there, but they're not really a bikeshop and couldn't give a damn anyway. Which is why people don't like them :) In that they're making money from you without giving a shit about decent customer service or without much knowledge of the products they're selling. If you can, stick with local bike shops. They're f**king awesome, which is why it's gay that our's is closing down. 7 mile ride to the nearest other shop, which is a piece of shit in someone's living room now. Joy :D Not to mention I've lost my job :)

Lawnmowerman
I had an interview at my local bikehut nearly 3 weeks ago now and i still havent had a call from them. I've phoned them twice and spoken to the store manager (guy that interviewed me) and each time he's said he will call me within the next week. Does it normally take them so long to come to a decision?

Lawnmowerman
That's what i dont get though. I'm the only one to apply for the job, I know what I'm doing, I work in a bikeshop already as the head mechanic and I know 2 of the people that work there already so i cant understand why i didnt get the job. Mark W
That is a little strange. Maybe they're just waiting for the opening to come about? Is there a member of staff leaving you're going to be replacing or something? Try getting the people you know there to do a bit of digging for you, maybe? Lawnmowerman
I would be replacing my mate Tim who is leaving on the 20th to go travelling in canada. I'm gonna see if he can get me any updates :)
Mark W
If he's leaving on the 20th, I guess they might have been keeping the position open in case someone better came along? MEh, dunno. Either way, if he's not due to leave for a while you've got a bit of time to wait I guess?
Lawnmowerman
I just want to know if I've got the job or not. They know I have to hand in my 2 weeks notice so I deffo can't start til the new year. Bastards lol
Mark W
Joys of applying for jobs, eh? My redundancy from our bike shop - as mentioned above - has forced my hand in terms of getting a new job. Tried to apply for a job at the records office of the county council, and I assume that 'cos I actually managed to figure out how the f**k to complete their online application form it pretty much means I've got the job. Seriously - most confusing, badly worded piece of shit form I've ever seen...
Daxo
I work in a Halfords store near my house. I don't work on the bikes, but the guys that do are great at trials and would probally understand the water maggies. Conclusion: Not all Halfords are retards... Just most of them

el curevo
Right ok, i work in halfords same store as dan6061 and not every body are retards. Its the few that give the place a bad name. Our bikhut manager 'fatt matt' is one of these retards that has been working for the company for 11 years and still knows nothing. But me and dan (a.k.a jimbob) do know our stuff. Im a downhiller and know a hell of alot about all kinds of bikes and so does dan! Its all depends on the store you go to, fatt matt isnt a mountain biker atall and to be honest is totally shit! You will get that in alot of stores because most proper mountain bikers will go to a proper bike shop to work. When ordering suff usually its ok but head office do cock it up for us. I have worked there for 2 years and havent even been considerd to go on a training course with piises me off! Its all my own knowlage, same with dan! Dan knows more about trials bikes than me and i know more about downhill and jumpbikes xc bike and what not! Im full time and dan is part time and to be honest he knows more than fat matt, as do i. So its very rare that we get send on courses that could be why they f**ked up your maggie. We are lucky in our store that we do have 2 people that know what they are on about, unfortunalty not all stores are like that, but then there are alot of other stores like ours. So dont be calling all the staff retards please cos we arnt, its the actuall company thats retared!! They dont care much about sending us on training courses. Hence why fatt matt isnt very good, he hasnt been on a proper course in the whole 11years hes been in the company. Dont forget aswell, halfords isnt set for specilist bikers, the market is set for people wanting a 70 quid bike. Like i say there are some stores with good people like me and jimbob and there are alot of them. But you will come actoss stores that do have people who dont have a clue because they havent been send on a traing coures! Onza T-pro Rob
Hahahaha.. Halfords are retards, if they had ever used a maggie they would know water works better in them haha also if its leaking everywhere they must be blind or something. Why don't they employ real people that actually know what they are doing, because all this sounds like there really dumb haha. This topic has made me laugh man im glad you made it.Rob. Halfords are retards, if they had ever used a maggie they would know water works better in them haha also if its leaking everywhere they must be blind or something. Yep I don't doubt they do know that. Unfortunatly page 4 or 5 in the magura manual states very largely in bold letters:"NEVER USE WATER!!" Because this is in the manual its much easier for halfords to stick to the rules, than to break them in an attempt to provide a better, more illegal service Its like a car garage taking off a catalytic convertor to make it work better (don't know if it does just an example). If they did that, the car would NOT pass its MOTSo rules and regulations come back to haunt us again...
