JT!
What sise you doing at the mo. I think the best peice of advice is jst befor you take off, get your ass down onto your back tyre, the rest will just happen automaticly.

Ash-Kennard
bunny hop! its the way forward, some times up, but thats irrelivant. gapping is all about the preload.

trials man josh
my best advice for gapping is get your arse by your tyre and push your bars where u want to go and your bike will take you but you have to kick hard enough or you wont get anywhere obviously lol :)
petit_pablo
Practise!!! Its much to do with technique, also the gear you are running. Ive changed to a slightly harder gear ratio and am flying now!!
aff1e
hi just practice n get a harder ratio, wen i got higher ratio i was doing bigger gaps hope this helps n go on www.trashzen.com great advice n tips :)
Ash-Kennard
yeah, but if you just change the gear ration to a harsher gearing then you are not really progressing, you are making it easier, as you can get more power. rather than doing all that, just practise and work on your technique, i run easy gearings and can't gap too far but i will with practise. its all about technique, practise and preload
Thurston
Cheers guys, thanks for the advice and i guess it's all about practise.

Part of preloading is that tension on the chain before the peddle down. Im not suggesting someone change gears solely to gap bigger but i always rode in a pretty easy gear, i changed to a lower gear ratio and it has helped as now ive progressed and am going bigger and better when i ride
joshywa
i find that if i start with room to do another hop before i reach the lip i can do a little hop before and as i land i can preload a bit more ... it also sets you up with a bit more speed before you leave the lip :) another think i do it tuck up in the air (works well with drop gaps) to do this just pull up in the air then as you feel your knees bend push them forward (CLS does them in most of his vids if you want to see how to do them) practicing is another good idea :santa: hope that helps :)
T-BAD
I'm having trouble with doing big gaps and was wondering if you have any suggestions on how to go bigger. Cheers Thurston when your going to take off, just lean in to the gap abit, THEN GO FOR IT!, i've been practising that today it seems to work fine for me

lankyri
the way that i gap is not gettin to the edge straight away, but when you hop towards the edge in one hop compress your legs and lower the front wheel, keeping your eye on the otherside of the gap. when you take off pull hard on the bars and kick out with your legs so your back wheel is now infront of your front wheel. as you hit the otherside of the wall hopefully the momentem (sp) will stop your back wheel and bringing you front wheel back infront of your back wheel. and let your front front drop on the wall. or if you want to keep it on the back wheel then when you land stamp on the pedals as you would do with a pedal hop which will bring your body back up right instead of your hole weight over the rear tyre hope this helps mate and keep practising

Clarky
Compress tyre on edge, lean over rear tyre, lower front end and engage hub and kick and jump as hard as possible. clarky
Greetings
In my opinion a big gap is a good combination of hight and speed. haven't yet got the catch of a 'flat' pedalkick, alsways raise my rear wheel very high into the air. At least it looks effective  Have a look at TRA's august 18th movie, he does some huge gaps there. Maybe you'll get the hang of the move, it varies depending on how far you are to kick. durkadurka
go down your local co-op warehouse and use the crates. vary the landing distance, this is what i have done in the past and it really does pay off. vary it gradually and you will be masterin 12ft across and 1ft down!! i tend to tilt the bike to the side, this way you can get more of your body lunging forward and can reach those extra inches. try it mate, i am pretty sure you will master it after a few attempts. hope this helps adz
