I rode trials for a couple of years back when i was 16/17 then didnt really ride for 5 years or so.

Never sold the bike, i started messing around on it when the missus wanted to go on bike rides in the summer.

Since then ive got proper back into it. Bought a new frame and other bits and ride almost every day now lol

I think the problem with 'losing interest' as such (because you haven't lost interest, its become a routine) is that you guys have been riding for 2/3 years plus and can do most things.

As someone said previous, your mates keep the interest which is true. I've been riding for about 4 months or so, and about a months off it so technically 3 months and I obviously haven't lost interest because there are plenty of things I would love do to but just cant.

People I sometimes ride with are exellent riders, and so you begin to idolise them and want to be as good which is what keeps me going, I imagine that once you're as good as everyone else there is no competition and it just gets feckin boring.

I used to ride MotoTrials, 11 years spent, every weekend, pumping sweet fumes into the atmosphere, but all the practice just got boring when I could do most things in the practice spot. The thing with mototrials is that you dont have anyone to realistically look up to, just Dougie Lampkin or something, which yes, he is very sociable so its not like a (Ex, shhh) World Champion that hides his face from the public, but the riding style is his personally and its VERY hard to copy.

But with BikeTrials you can look up to world champions if you wanted, or simply the 'best local rider'. But hey, Its just how you see it I suppose.

Considered taking up mototrials if your bored with bikes? That'll show you the meaning of expensive parts :)

I have been riding for over 7 years now and I still love it, cant imagian quitting anytime soon

I think it really helps having friends in the same mindset though, like I have iolo and Wad locally, they are really optimistic about everything (espeically Iolo!!).

I did kinda get into the whole hight thing recently, but that got boring quick.

Natrual riding doesnt get boring, its always differnt, never repetative.

I am gonna make m bike a little more fun though, get some riser bars and a shorter stem on, having a bike set up purly for high taps and gaps gets a bit limiting.

I tried bmx but I didnt like it, payed LOADS on brake parts to try and get some decent stopping power but it didnt work, my brake was shite. I cant ride with shite brakes, it takes all my confidence away!

Also I found the bike too small, I couldnt move about on it as much as I like.

I am tempted to get a 24" cruiser and pop some vee mounts on, I recken that would be nicer to ride.

Shame bmx is sooo scary though, there wasnt a day I wouldt come back without an injury.

But Ben, dont sell your bike, I'm really glad I haven't (although I did think about it many times). Just incase one day you get that sudden urge to ride, and if that happens and you've got no bike then you'll be gutted that you sold it. (If that makes any sense)

Paul.

I stopped riding about a year and a half(ish) ago and sold my bike. Now i just miss riding and don't have enough money to get a new bike. Plus I've pretty much lost all contact with the people i rode with. :(

My advice - If your going to have a break - dont sell your bike.

there was a post similar to this recently, with some boy saying how he wasnt enjoying it as much. which is his opinion, no-one can change it, only he can. Its the same scenario here. To which im going to have a reply similar to ALI C's

I LOVE TRIALS RIGHT NOW> I dont give a shit whether i get slagged cos all i do is hook tap and sidehop. I like trying to go bigger, its the funnest part in my opinion, yes i get frustrated, but its what i enjoy doing. Im good mates with damon watson, and we always have a laugh talking about who is best, who cna go bigger. but it is all in jest, bit of banter to spice it up.

Im about to start trying more technical stuff. hopping onto rails etc, and whether u say it or not it takes big balls when its handlebar heigh. if you have tried it or reckon you would i challenge you too. its difficult.

in reply to bongo, i understand your awesome on your bmx, and overall there is probably more danger, but if your ten feet up doing a twelve foot gap over water in bristol then im sure thats pretty sketchy as well. There is danger in trials, just because your not travelling at 100mph doesnt mean that its not dangerous. I enjoy watchin BMX, its cool, but I, yes ME, I MOI prefer trials, and its much more fun.

onzaboymark, you really need to stop watchin trials vids if you find them so repetitive. Thats what trials riders do. we are not BMXers, we dont mix tricks like BMXers, so if you can find the perfect trials video then ill be happy to watch it, somewhere there will be a street video that has a big up in it. James porter is an example, he does all this spinny stuff, but hooks taps drops gaps, thats what trials is mainly about. even the likes of miek (leedtrials) does gaps, sure he does technical stuff, but can he hook, u know its what we enjoy doing

:) my 2p too much writing

i learning on vertical walls dude :) but its cracking the leeson...eeeeekkkkkk hopefully i can get some pointers off peeps on this leeds ride at xmas (Y) because i am the only trying outta our group of riders.

but yeah like bongo said mix things up a bit -try manifeto style! try different moves - rail rides if you don't normally do them or whatever. try not to get stressed if you can't make something. I was trying a 5.5 - 6 ft gap last night and gapping pretty shitly. so i thought f**k it and tried to do it in a sidehop gap instead - took me a few goes, but made it :) biggest one yet! :) its all good. maybe set your bike up differently more streety or more trialsy!

go out have a laugh try a few random tricks - just have fun!

thats the exact response i wanted, mainly to point out that onza boy mark is wrong in sayin UCI stuff is boring, if street heads like mike are doing stuff like this, it cant be that boring, even i like mixing the odd spinny thing in there.

meh, ill help you with hooks mike if you teach me how to do some of the weird stuff u do :P see you on leeds ride

i do get you, and know there is plenty of danger in trials. I got bored though. A gap is a gap, whether its 1 foot up or 10 feet. It's a mental thing, and if that height doesn't phase you, then it begins to get boring (for me anyway).

It's not anything to do with speed that attracts me to bmx either. I'm the slowest bmxer i know lol.

I get your point. Everybody is different (Y)
