Mr Motivator
Project front driveside disk mount is here. I have a pair of Pashley forks, a chunk of 6mm steel and a mig welder. It is time. How thick are the fork legs? I'm guessing around 2mm? I may try and get hold of a pair of TuffGuys and use them instead maybe. Might not be worth chuffing up my Pashs. So how thick are they as well, I'm guessing 2mm again. Sam edit: Yeah, just incase your wanting to be a knowall, I'll be runing the calliper on the front of the forks. Mr Motivator
Aren't they about £20 new though? (Y) £5+p&p seeing as there are no mounts and need re-spray ;) How have the mounts been removed, attacked with a grinder? edit: my bad, they are more than £20 Edited November 23, 2005 by Sam@SouthTrials
Ali C
2mm seems a lot for steel forks.........1.4 or somwhere like that sounds more reasonable. I welded a disk mount to my pashleys, they lasted about 4 months then snapped just above the mount. It might have been my shoddy welding, lack of heat treatment or the rustyness that caused it though.....get them done proper and they will be chipper

Why not have a chat to Clive Leeson?!?
Mr Motivator
Money Issue, and I'd like to do them myself, gives me something to do and be proud of (Y) It's not as if I cant weld so I might as well do it.
theno1woody
if you weld a mount on the front of the forks (disc side) id be very careful! even if u are a good welder the mount will be put under a lot of stress! it doesnt have the fork leg to support it so the weld will take all the braking force. just a thought..... rich4130
Project front driveside disk mount is here. a mig welder I can weld proppper (Y) Theres the problem, that will create loads of heat, pashley forks are Tig welded together for a reason, and Clive Leeson brazes on the disk mount when he does it, its not just a flat piece of steel, it wraps around the fork legs I think. Even when getting the mounts moves on mine I mad sure they were done by Tig. Have a go if you like though. ;)
the_soon_to_be
I can weld proppper :P I have a certificate and everything :P humm, level 1, i win. Sam get my forks tack them up and i can either MIG or TIG um up for you, be my claim to fame gaz... or actually scratch that, arc it. Then them suckers never gunna break, at the welds atleast gaz... N.Wood
Welding the mount on the front of the fork sounds retarded... What's your reason for this? As has been said (and you'll know if you've been doing yo' homework) it'll put way more stress on the weld for the majority of moves (i.e everything other than hooks). Good luck. ScotchDave
Could it be that Sam sidehops to the left and is fed up of killing rotors? :P Edited November 24, 2005 by div
IOLO
pash forks are 1.2mm thick i think.. and i would put a small gusset to strengthen , more to help spread the stress. i have a pair of forks with a front drive side disk mount,, worked fine, but they are manky forks,, good if u side hop to non drive.. go for it.. Joe_Elding
Why would you need to do them on the front of the forks? TO be honest i don't see they point, I'm sure you'd rather spend £20 on a rotor than £70 on forks
Mr Motivator
Why would you need to do them on the front of the forks? Think about it.. Anyway, I'm no longer going to be running the calliper on the front of the forks, after some working out and thinking, I'm going to run my calliper upside down on the rear of the forks. Sorted.
