JT!
Are you sure the steerer is cut sloped? I'm quite sure they'll come flat. Also when i cut my steerer down i did a really crap job of it. But the starnut went in fine as i used the right tools. Shouldn't have much of a problem in that area. Sponge
Well, it does come with a sloping steerer tube. I think perhaps cutting it down might do. Now all I need is a 21 tooth chainring :turned: If one exists....
Joe_Elding
You don't need to cut the slope off i don't think Just whack a spacer above the stem so that the topcap sits on something horizontal :turned:
narrowbars
As far as I know no one makes a 21t chainring. Sorry
JT!
Well, it does come with a sloping steerer tube. I think perhaps cutting it down might do. I don't understand why the forks would come with a sloping steerer tube, as forks come with a very long steerer anyway, designed so that you cut of to fit. :P Where does it say they come with a sloped top? :P
Mark W
Where does it say they come with a sloped top? :P Where it says "Monty 220 Forkswith Magura mounts Black, sloping steerer tube" Anyways, they'll have "standard" spacing for that. Monty were only complete twats with the rear end of the frames, to my knowledge :P Seeing as they're out of stock so you're not in a great rush, call up Cleanbikes and ask them if they could possibly measure the back of the steerer tube from the base of the / part of it, just to see whether if you cut it flat it'll actually have enough steerer for you. Joe_Elding
Oh and last of all, would anyone happen to know if it is possible to buy a decent 21 tooth 5-bolt fitting alloy chainring? Right now I'm running 22:14, but 21:14 would be the perfect gearing. :P Thanks very much for your time guys. :P I don't think anyone makes them as cogs are made so each tooth is opposite another i think? With 21 teeth that would be impossible
Sponge
I still wonder, because when a friend came over to my house to smash in a starnut into my get-around BMX's forks, the tool he used screwed the starnut onto it, and would smack it with a mallet into the steerer tube, however, he did it so the flat bottom part just above the starnut screwed on, would sit and be stopped by the flat head of the steerer tube, making a perfect starnut fit. Maybe I'm getting confused with other ways of getting starnuts in or something... How would you get a perfect starnut fit with a sloping steerer tube? Thanks for the help to all who've replied so far, bit gay that I can't get a 21 tooth :P, well, I'll have to make do with 1.57 gearing :P
