Doing Up To Front Gaps

Recommended Posts

Im trying to do those sort of gaps (which ali c calls skinny cheetahs) where you gap, put the front wheel down and then due to the forward momentum of the gap, the brake locks and you do a sort of endo

My problem is instead of an endo, im doing a stoppie. Now at first I thought it was my brake but im beginning to wonder if it is. Its new and being bedded in so im not expecting alot, but is there anything else apart from brake power I need for this move?

Thanks in advance

Obviously like with any move in trials you need to get the technique down aswell, its not just about having the right bike obviously, just get practicing trying to get your weight forward and pin the front wheel. Try and be more controlled on the bike ( if that makes sense ? )

You have to get your weight really low and far over the bars... Look at any pic of someone doing a gap up to front and you'l see where you need to be.

Have a look on Trashzen, theres a vid of myself and one of Chai doing some up to front moves.

You just have to commit.

If you can get the front wheel down right on the edge of the object, the back end will come up easier into like an endo, rather than rolling onto the object (or even skidding). So aim for the corner. The only problem is if you come up a bit short...

I was practising these today on some pallets, from one up to about four and about a bikes length apart. I found that if I didnt commit and throw my weight over the bars then I would land really orquadly and only just make it, but if you throw you weight forward and commit then you float onto your front wheel and can swap to the back/lower your back wheel down gently and stylishly. Practice.
