Whos Been Caught Speeding?

On friday driving home from work, was coming down the M57 and at the very end there is road works with a 40mph limit. Theres no lane narrowing etc so the road is exactly the same. Well anyway I was doing 65mph and an un-marked vectra pulled me. The result is 3 points and £60 fine.

Just wanted to know who else has been robbed, what the result was and how it effect insurance etc??

Also I hear theres a posibility of doing a driving safely course and not having the points??? or something?

the speed limit is there to protect the people working on the road, whether the lanes have been narrowed or not. you shouldn't have been speeding, but you were, and you got caught. i don't see how you were robbed? if you HADN'T been speeding, and they'd fined you, THAT would be robbery, but you were caught breaking the law. its better that you got caught and fined than killed somebody.

i always thought that where the limit has been lowered becasue of roadworks and your caught speeding you only get fined and no points, could be wrong but i think i will check

Applies to everywhere BUT national speed limit areas, ie. not motorway

Correct I broke the law.

But, 40mph on a motway is a joke. Do you drive, just out of intrest?

In my eyes, speeding is speeding wether your doing 37 in a 30mph zone or 100 mph in a 40mph zone, its all the same to me really, the police need to bollock you about petty things like that, just so people are aware that it doesnt take much to get done!

Cheers Guys.

the speed limit is set to the level that is required for the safety of the others, which is no joke.

i've been driving for over 4 years, and i still think that you have no ground to stand on. if you'd hit someone and killed them, would it still be a joke? i'm amazed by the attitudes some people take to driving...it's a privilege, not a right. if you abuse it, don't complain when you get caught, there's hundreds of other people on the road to consider, not just yourself and the fact that you want to drive fast.

out of interest for me this time, how long have you been driving for?

If you're crossing a motorway on foot, whether your working or not, you should expect to get hit.

Ive been done 3 times for speeding so far :)

1st was 43 in a 30 (speed gun)

2nd was 38 in a 30 (speed camera)

3rd was 94 on a motorway (traffic police)

Im fully aware of the fact im breaking the law when speeding. Its a chance i used to take. I have however, grown up now and dont take the piss anymore!

The 40 mph limits set on motorways / dual carriageways are, as stated earlier, there for the workers safety as many a twat has gone ploughing through the roadworks and nailed a worker.

Whether the guys were working or not at that time is irrelevant really. The limit was clearly signed.

For the record, ive been driving 6 years now.

Have been done for speeding, had accidents, done driver training courses and currently drive around 35-40k miles a year.

  • 2 weeks later...

My advice... whenever there is a temporary roadworks speed limit on the motorway, obey it.

I second that.

I've been caught once on the way out of Northampton, which is infested with Speed Cameras, so I was basically expecting to get caught. And sure enough, letter comes through my door ten days later. 47mph in a 40. 3 points, and its only 30pounds if you pay it within two weeks.

Interestingly, I have also been done for driving too slowly, as in 30mph on the motorway. It was 3am on the M5 driving from birmingham down to hampshire for a comp, and I was so tired and there was no-one else on the road (and I mean no one for about 20 miles) and just didn't realise I was doing 30 until a police man pulled me over, breathalised me (which I passed) and ordered me to stop at the next services and sleep for at least an hour, or drink some increadibly strong coffee...
