Alex.loves.boys
hey righty cristmas is coming up and im looking for new crank and bottom brackets as i think my onza one is on its way out. so... i've bin looking at the echo black cranks as there the cheapest and look relitively good.but are they? now bottom brackets is were im stuck at , i do not have a CLUE what is good and what isnt. so what is a good one to have under 20 pounds . it need to be 127 mm i think to allow room for my freewheel. now one more thing my freewheel(ENOtrials)is wedged on i cannot get it off , my lbs could not get it off as they said there freewheel tools cannot take it off.so what the other options are there? i cannot afford a new one to be honest,so there must be a way to get it off. my limmit for cranks and bb is £100. thanks alot hairbo
Bionic Balls
i'm pretty sure the new echo cranks are isis, so you'll need an isis BB- £35 is about what you'd expect to pay for a 128mm axle. Look into the FSA platinum DH and truvativ gigapipe (CRC). Regarding the freewheel, buy the tool (~£8) and find a sturdy vice and give it a go yourself. If you are really stuck (and the lbs can't do it), pay the postage to me and i'd take it off for you....my shed has been built to take off freewheels ( i had to take em off sooo many times). Adam edit: oh..i see they do isis or square taper...well- i really like isis (feels much stiffer), but if you can't afford it (your budget would do it <_<), you want a shimano UN52 seeing as they're the only ST that has 128mm axle. Or...there is an onza BB on tartybikes...don't know if it's any good mind. Edited November 19, 2005 by ad101

Adam If you do it by hitting the crank arm, you deserve to have your testes crushed in said vice <_< Your bikeshop isn't worth using if they can't take a freewheel off. Seriously. It's so simple to do, as long as you've got the vice, the extractor tool, and a spanner with a bit of an extension bar :) Just clamp the crank in the vice, bolt the tool to the freewheel, use the spanner + extension to turn the freewheel off. Simple, clean, no hammering of expensive cranks, etc.
Bionic Balls
i really find it much easier (perhaps due to confined space) to use a beef rubber mallet and hit the crank round, whilst the tool is held in the vice...(with a bolt +nut holding it on...) and i don't have a random pole anyway. adam
Mark W
Yes, it's just that it takes a loooooad of force to break the freewheel loose of the crank, so I'd rather not be basically raping my crank with all that force <_< Meh, to each their own I guess. Just check out skips 'n' stuff and you'll probably come across some tubing you could use. Or old hoover pipes :)
