Hope Pro 2 Hubs

Hi, i thought i would make a topic on the new, soon to be released hope pro 2 hubs, i have been testing these hubs for around 18 months with various different combinations of ratchet designs,

The hubs are now fully finished in terms of design for the standard hubs, the single speed/ 6 sprocket dishless trials version is still a prototype (i only just recieved mine today)

the hubs are as follows

pro 2: this will have aluminium drive shell, with a 24 pawl rathcet body with 4 equal pawls giving 24 engagement points.

pro 2 t: this will have a stainless stell drive shell, with 24 pawl ratchet body with 4 offset pawls giving 48 engagement points.

these are all due in decmeber to be in shops

these are pictured below in ash kenndards post (he is uploading the pics of my hubs)

however today i receieved a new prototype, which i asked to be made, this is going to be quite interseting for trials riders

this is a pro 2 t hub, with a shorter cassette body made of stainless steel, this gives a dishless rear wheel, whioch is a lot stronger than normal, also the hub hosts M10m button head bolts rather than qr's

but the good thing about this certain hub is that it can accomodate 6 of hopes new sprockets in a wide array of sizes, thus being able to be used on a stock bike for british championships rules, also it can be run as single speed,

this hubs to me, looks like it will be the choice of trials riders, due to the dishless option and the 6 sprockets fitting perfectly,

ash is now goin to upload the pictures for me,

any questions please fell free to ask

cheers ashley smith, barnoldswick

answers to questions so far: -

yes they are goin to be non disc for the trials version, the single speed was just a prototype

yes they are all coming out in all the usual colours (except green and purple as hope have given over with these colours, there was not enough demand for them)

they will be available in either 32 or 36 hole spoke options

yes the 18 long months was very testing............... finidng a pawl and spring design which works, as of yet the new leaf spring design is yet to skip, on either my bike or joe shepheards.......my fellow trials rider.

feedback from other disciplines of the biking world e.g. xc and dh have been good

keep the questions coming guys

cheers ash

these hubs would have been released so much sooner and would have had more rider in put if they had done them through a wider range of riders, really doesnt bother me weather i run mono hubs or pro 2 hubs but what is doing my nut in is that there are more and more topics on here about pro 2 hubs than there is of bloody decent trials related topics!!!!!

these hubs should have been tested by the likes of akrigg, ashton and hawzee etc etc where there input would have been there to help and also the likes of younger street riders who bash and beat things up. that is how you test things not giving them to someone or people who dont ride their bikes!!!! their is a young lad from near barnoldswick who breaks stuff for fun and he is the lad that should have had all the pro2 prototypes!!! hes spot on and really would test the hubs.

i cant get a picture of the internals as of yet because if i take the cassetet body off, you need a special bush to replace the seal on these new hubs................ its a bit of a pain in the arse

the internals are basically the same as a profile though.......... leaf spring design, this hasnt budged yet, my mate joe shepheard, hes a good rider, quite heavy and his pro 2 hasnt budged either, he was going through standard hope xc hubs in about 2 days, he even stripped the ratchet ring threads in a xc hub, which is almost unheard of....

the earlier designs, with the wrap around spring..... which i think wayne saw one of mine was absolutely crap, they skipped for fun and the ratchets on mine all broke.....

but the new ones seem to be good, ive got one on my xc bike which is never going to break due to it doesnt get enough stress, the one on my trials bike is awesome, although they do need beddign in at first, you can feel the rathcte ring tightne within the hub shell..................

ye 2 pawls engage at once so there like a profile in thoery which i said they should have done in the first place! you may aswell take a good design and make it better.

also its joe that is the good rider who should have been testing these from new.

i ordered my new hope hubs for 2006 and they said hold back for a pair of the pro 2's and i have but i still got a pair of mono's but i swear by mono's my self, it will take somethng special to make me think ye this is so much better, so we will wait and see. its not about pick up its about what you can do with what you have got!back in the day adam wilson used shimano hubs!!!! and he was awesum even with shitmano. people who think about pick up and stuff will always have problems with thinking aboout it and not progress cos there thinking too much about lack of pick up.

Valid points wayne, but, there is no point holding yourself back just to prove you can ride with less engagements.

I have a king, it feels so much nicer than an ACS, you cant deny it. And saying that, an ACS has more engagements than a hope, so that must feel pretty wank.

Engagements are good, and i dont know how people can say they would rather have 24, than 48 or 72.

Good on hope for making all this trials stuff, hopefully it will help the sport grow.

notice, i said 'almost' unheard of, and especially in 2 days...............

the prices for the hubs will be around the usual price of £120

the pro 2 t hubs have 2 pawls engaging at a time, with 48 eps

the pro 2 hubs have 4 pawls engaging at a time, with 24 eps

the single speed hubs should be available without the disc mounts or with the disc mount, but that is still a prototype............

Please tell me thats going to be fixed in the production version. Part of the appeal of a hope is that it can be fully serviced with no tools. If a bush needs replacing every time you take the bloody thing apart its going to be a right pain in the arse!!
