Ok, so I'm going to have some files on my computer that I don't want anyone to have access to. I've got a copy of CryptoExpert which creates kind of virtual drives which are hidden and encrypted when not in use and password protected when I need them. However once I've entered the password anyone could come along (i.e. hacking) and steal the files. I don't know how effective Windows firewall is but I just wondered if anyone knows anything about this sort of thing...'cos I don't!!

Wouldnt worry about hacking too much to be honest.... why dont you just rar/ace the files (winace.com) with a password? They use pretty hardcore encrypting and are pretty difficult to crack. Call the file 'MyFamilyPhotos.rar' or something and in the rare case that a hacker gets in chances are they'll skip over it.

If you're that concerned with retaining the secrecy of these documents , don't post on an online forum about 'em , especially broadcasting that they're both sensetive and currently pooly protected .

I'm certain that there are folk who can easily trace your IP adress on the basis of your submissions to this forum . I'd dump it on a high capacity USB stick , and hide it carefully .
