llandudno_trialsboy
what do people think of the progress that bike trials has made over the years? how did bike trials start and has the level of riding improved?
Ash-Kennard
thats all good finding out what happenend, but what would be better would be whats next to come?
EwaNzz
yeah it has gradually built up over the years, i think that leesons are getting built so that they can get pegs on the side so it can become a trial/bmx :) apart from that im not sure what will happen to trial biking in the future, hopefully some more people will start it up in the north east of scotland :S :(
Porkster
I too would like to know what is next in bike trials.. do you think the geometry will change yet again? do you think BB's will go back down or keep going up? with the rate of change of biketrials in the last 10 years especially, i doubt that we have come to a standstill as far the advance of geometry, riding style, riding skill, rules, etc.... things will change over time, i just want to know what. :(
ShiroKage
I rode big in 98 and 99, then left completely and got back into it only a few months ago. It was such a huge change!! i dont think anyone can realise how much trials has changed unless they lose all contact with it for 6 or more years!! Heres my old spec, and i assure u back in the day this would have been considered pretty trials specific.... Marin Eldridge grade frame 13.5" w/kona p2 forks Mavic D521 rims w/LX hubs and Specialised evil twin 2.3" tires (i loved those tires!) Maggie HS33s (obv) FSA sidewinder crankset (i think) w 22t LX cassette 8spd w/ LX r.mech and LX pod shifter Azonic world force bars and Kore stem ( i think it was about 70mm with a big rise) DMR V12s (obv) DMR bashguard Plus some other stuff. I rode that thing very hard and was pretty good with it. but most of the stuff on it was built for XC and DH, we didnt have much trials stuff except bashguards pretty much! Then i rushed back into it without checking out whats changed, hence my new setup lol
spode@thinkbikes
I know what you mean. Trials has come SO FAR. When I first started, we were making our own rock rings because we couldn't buy them! We were riding generic aluminium unmarked frames and riding mainly XC/DH parts. It was a lot harder to learn too, as there was no-one to teach us. Someone can pick up an entire trials bike for £300 now and develop more in 3 months than we probably did in 3 years. Street Trials is quite a new sport really...
PaRtZ
Back wheeling along a hand rail wasn't invented lol. It was less of moves but more about application of moves. And in my opinion less about height
Trials Dave
Back wheeling along a hand rail wasn't invented lol. It was less of moves but more about application of moves. And in my opinion less about height yeah i agree. small technical moves were appreciated then.
spode@thinkbikes
I think the obsession with bigger gaps and higher backwheeling is quite a base raw instinct. But I think it does ruin trials a little. I'm more impressed by other aspects of trials and that's the way I like to ride. I ride in a considerably looser gear than most people and that limits not only the run up you can take, but the size of gaps and back wheeling you can do. Jules
I always wonder when a new hydrolic rim brake will come out, like if hope made one or something..
