Ali C
I am at my local bike shop at the mo, only part time mind, and I dont get payed, but they sometimes give me stuff (like a buff today cos it was cold out (Y) ) I managed to work 3 days as a tool maker for a big wire company, the work was alright, but I couldnt cope with the hours (7.45 am - 4.30pm) I also only managed one day at a place that make mechanical bulls, it was too far to travel without a car for me. having good pay doesnt mean shit if you dont enjoy your job, the two places above were like £9 an hour, but I didnt enjoy them so thers no point doing it, I REALLY dont see the point of being unhappy, life is too short. I am working for free at my current place, but I enjoy it there, so I am happy.
spangler
I am 19, and when i left school i got a job as a dish washer at my local pub/restaurant was always fun and i got as much free food and puddings as i wanted and free beer from the bar, was pretty cool for a 16 year old. Verdict:- £3.60 an hour and only working evenings and weekends pissed me off and all i ever did was sleep all day. Then.... Birmingham pallasades Woolworths. Started in the warehouse on £4.18 per hour and i must say that this was the best job i have ever had and probably ever will have as the warehouse manager was 20 at the time and he's now one of my best friends because all we ever did was eat food play with all the toys and the best part was we were the only ones with keys to the warehouse so if anyone wanted in they had to knock. Everyday i would wake up and think great i'm going to work because i would come in stick a few of our "faulty" stereo's on and grab a skateboard and go for a spin. Also as all of the members of staff were students everynight after work was party time. I also met my soon to be wife there pic below Verdict:- I would still be there now but after a year and a half they put me in charge of stationary on the shop floor so i grew a huge mohawk and after much arguing with management i quit and let them know exactly what i thought of them (Y) Now..... Birmingham Airport window cleaner. I actually love this job too i've been here a year and a half and it's good fun. I go anywhere in the airport and i also go up on some big office building that means i get an extra £1.50 per hour hazard pay and with the annual pay rise we've just had brings my pay up to £7per hour which i think is fine. Cleaning windows is a piece of piss and i could do it with my eyes closed so all i do all day is watch the world go by and chat to everyone, oh and to any single blokes working at an airport would be very nice as it is literally full of airhostesses. (Y) Verdict:- I now have my own house and have money to spare, I'm doing a training course to be a Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) once i start as that i'm pretty much set for life starting salary is £20,000-£25,000 and you can work anywhere in the world :)
Corish
I'm sure you can do Bar work at 17, PROVIDING!! There is someone supervising you. I may also be wrong but I'm sure my mum told me unless it was for her pub she owned. I'm not 100% Sure so tell me if I'm wrong. But don't presume I'm wrong. I'm sick to the back of my teeth of people presuming/predicting things on here.
Frenchman
I work as a barman for Plymouth argyle football club :S Part time work, pretty flexible hours, reasonable part time pay, £4.50 an hour. I do a lot of functions. Birthdays, meetings, trade shows etc I absolutely love doing it :( Loads of fun and i have been friends with all of the bar staff for years so we all have such a laugh. Glass collecting, waiting is a doddle and as your 17 i would recommend doing something along these lines. As regards the law with underage barmen i think its something along the lines of if your under 18 your allowed to serve but not take any money. As soon as my police check clears I ave a part time job working with autistic children down the road wen the need cover that will be interesting and rewarding. The rule in Sainsburys was you ar enot allowed to serve acholic products if you ar eunder the age of 18, you need someone wo is 18 or over to supervise you when you put the goods through the till.
