I Have Just Recieved A Virus From Wytrials.co.uk

Recently Digital-Crocs (What Wytrials and Tarty Bikes are hosted on) have been having a big problem with the Viruses.

I was talking to Luke who own DC and he said he thinks it's a group of Russians that have registered with DC and hacked peoples websites. They put something on there called an iFrame which re-directs you to another website (With the virus) and they are getting paid for doing it which is a bit shit. :shifty:

DC are working on a more secure hosting service so I'm told in the E-Mail they sent me (And other people who have sites hosted on DC) so it shouldn't be long before it's all sorted out.

Hi Lee,

In the next 48 hours, your site will move from being hosted on our old server, "fox", to our new server, "spiral". The new server is a significant upgrade, boasting Dual Opteron CPUs, 2GB EEC DDR RAM and almost half a terabyte of fast SATA storage. This means that your site(s) will be faster and more responsive.

For security reasons, your account password on our new server will be different to your existing one. This means that the password you use to log into your Email (if you are not using any custom mailboxes), your FTP space and the Control Panel will change. However, MySQL passwords are intentionally not changing. If you want to change your MySQL password, you will be able to do this through "Databases" in the Control Panel once the server move takes place, but not before..

NB: Your password will only change when we move to the new server, which will be some time between now and Thursday 10th November 2005. You should not change the password yourself, nor should you change the password back to what it was, as this may make your site(s) vunerable to attack.

We recommend that you stop using your old password anywhere on the internet, as the security of our old server was partially compromised and the attacker may have gained access to it. This is the reason some sites have recently been affected by a virus. While we have been uninfecting sites as quickly as possible, you should check the source (View -> Source) of your site for any "iframe" elements, and if they exist, report them to us for immediate disinfection. If you are using Internet Explorer, you should first download, install and use Firefox (www.getfirefox.com) as Internet Explorer is notoriously vunerable to infection.

In response to this security threat, we have tightened up security on our new server very substantially. While the attackers were prevented from accessing the system services on fox by being "jailed" into a limited environment, they were, in some cases, still able to read files belonging to other users within that jail. Now, instead, every user is secure in their own "virtual server". This means that your website now operates in a unique, protected system which does not have the potential security implications of the previous setup. We hope you feel confident that as a result of the new system, your site is now fully secure.

We apologise for the long delays in answering some support requests. Rest assured that as soon as our server move is complete, we will then divert our time and energy towards answering your individual questions.

If you have any questions or problems, please contact us by replying to this email, or emailing us at support@digital-crocus.com.

We will email you again when the server move is complete and your new passwords are active.

Best Regards,

Luke Marsden

They're having problems moving the servers over at the moment so it might be a longer wait than planned. (Y)

That should clear a few things up for now.

Lee. ;)
