Wright Pads
Royal mail have fianly brought my new toy. My new pc project came today. Yes i have money to burn, £1k nearly off stuff there:- Intel Pentium-M Dothan 750 1.86GHz (533FSB) 2MB L2 Cache Asus P4C800-E Deluxe Intel 875P Asus CPU Upgrade Kit CT-479 Crucial 2GB (2x1GB) DDR PC4000 Ballistix Dual Channel Kit Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 NCQ 500GB ST3500641AS SATA-II 16MB Cache X2 RAID0 config (1Tb of data hehehe) Gonna start working on my Dothan and overclock her to 2.6GHZ easy on the stock HSF. Thats just to start with. As for speed, it will be a huge amount faster than one of my systems, being a 2.6Ghz P4 Northwood. The Pentium M is faster clock for clock than an A64 so it'll be faster than the FX-57! Considering that the FX-57 is clocked 400Mhz higher than the A64 4000+! I've gone for the P-M chip as they run lot less hotter even overclocked they are cold (30*c ish), can use on a desktop and they are faster and more powerfull than a A64 FX57 which RRP @ £734.32inc vat!!! eak. Gonna have it setup and oc'd and burning in in next hour so should get some tasty results. One happy chappy!! Yay! Just though i'd post for the Pc monkey amongst us all!! Siders77
What case is this going in Pete? Oh, do you have the Coffin case still? Do you know if my new MOBO and stuff will fit in it? I may be interested in it if it does/ if you want to sell it. :D
Wright Pads
I duno, i got a nice workstation thing for it to go on as i play with it. I might sell my P4 4789 2.6 Northwood system and put this in that case as that cas eis now back to £90 and i paid £30, good deal! Yeah i still have me coffin. Just though randomly putting the m in there as it's so cold, so dead quite and cold! Random. It's at the end of my bed dude and she'll take any ATX bord and smaller. No idea on bTX bords but were yet to fully see anyhting of them out and about yet so it's all gravy there. One thing with my coffin case is it's gonna be hard to fit parts, it'll take so planning and one issue i've had is the optical drives but it can be done. I'll be on msn tonight i hope dude if not txt but i gotta go out to some silly meal thing with the missis (Deb) agh! Pete

spode@thinkbikes
You won't be dissappointed mate. I'm running a Pentium M Dothan 1.6GHz as my main machine. Did have it up at 2.13Ghz but then I borked the motherboard with a drill. You'll get better speeds than that because of your board. This thing (Aopen Lm855) can't go above 133MHz. But my machine is build for quietness. Has a 5700 Ultra SilentFX (fanless) a PSU with a 120mm fan in that almost silent and a Samsung Spinpoint hard drive. It is as good as silent, so I can sleep with it on. Then my server does all my file storage, which has 600GB in it. If I want to play games, I just use my test bed, which has a choice of 10 graphics cards at the moment (Y)

rumble291
Ive heard that you can overclock Athlon 64 4000+ to around 6ghz now thats fast but probably makes cooling a bitch

Gonna be runinng a memory of 1:1 with the CPU up to 200fsb (from 133fsb default). She's at 2.7 now, let the bord do auto 30% OC and 2.6 was perfectly fine so added a bit more FSB now 2.7, being prime stable for 6 hours now! I only have the sound of my HD's clicking now and then but i'm gonna move them up on some rubebr mounts to the 5 1/2'' drive bays so i wont get it anymore. I have sound deadning material on my case too and my PSU is >20dBa The only noise on my P4 northwood system is my Abit EQ highering and lowering the fans on my NB and OTES cooling system...plus the side mounted 80mm fan which i wont be having when i put them P-M in there. I'll use the system for hacking, video, photo, gaming, downloading, software devlopment. I'm happy with the spend so far and she's really cool and cold and wow! Pete Oh and to Overclock a AMD A64 like that to 6GHZ your gonna need lots of effort and a cascade cooling system. Looking at a head temp of -120+. I've a phase chnage unit on a A64X2 @3ghz, thats dual core so it's really running at 6GHZ but each core doing 3GHZ. Head on my phase is -60 and runinng idel temps are -40 load -23. It took 12 hours to get it to 3GHZ from 2.4 but wow so fast. Edited November 11, 2005 by Wright Pads

poopipe
its a lovely looking spec but why the hell havent you invested in some decent graphics hardware ? drop one of the hard drives, stick a pair of 6800 ultras in there and double your memory - then you've got a beast

If so i don't have PCI-E on the MOBO as PCI-e is more LGA775, 754, 939 etc Socket...new age CPU's. It's AGP but it works better than PCI-E as there is really not much in there let alone runinng dual SLI as i have on my AMD 64x2 system and G5 powermac. My new system is now benched fully at 2.7125mhz, 2.71Ghz from 1.88Ghz!!!!

The only reason I have a 5700 Ultra is because I run two monitors, so the onboard graphics wouldn't cut it. However, why do you have an X2 AS WELL? Do you have more money than sense, or is there something you're not telling us?
Wright Pads
Not that much all in. My AMD x2 system is worth lots more, the cooling on that alone is £550! Chip is not far from that then you got more to go ontop so CPU cooling and CPU alone is £1k. I have the AMD x2 as it's a cool pc to have and i wanted soemthing to show off and play with and well i can and could! I have a few games, BF2 on there which testes it to it's limites. I can get pc stuff cheap if i can...sometimes as in my new system not so... Edited November 11, 2005 by Wright Pads
tank_rider
Looks like a nice setup, what sort of superpie time are you getting with that? You say it's faster than an FX-57, but to be perfectly honest it won't perform better due to its outdated pentium 3 architecture. Have you got any plans for any better cooling? I believe someone has managed to get an XP-120 to fit theirs. Have you got a screenie of it in CPU-Z? Oh and its not an athlon 64 that's got to 6GHz, it was a P4 using liquid Nitrogen cooling. Basically in a completely non susatinable running environment, i.e they couldn't run it for more than about 5 mins, just enough time for a few benchmarks etc. My rig is starting to show its age now in the latest games, but its still plenty good enough for most of what i use it for (a bit of gaming and CAD/CAE along with everyday office and internet usage). I unfortunately don't have the money for anything new yet :turned: it will have to wait until i finish uni and get a job in the summer.

Have you got any plans for any better cooling? I believe someone has managed to get an XP-120 to fit theirs." In games, it probably will be. When we compared it to the 915 Based Pentium M board (with PCI-E and DDR2 etc), it gave comparitively faster frame rates. It may be based on the P3 architecture, but it's extra Level 2 cache helps a lot, and it has better branch prediction. It is lacking SSE3 though.
