JT!
Got a new laptop and just found out how to activate the mic. As soon as i activated, high pitched squealing <_< . I know i can turn the mic down or the speakers down, but why am i getting feedback? I understand how you get feedback on electric guitars and karaoke etc. But a computer mic setup is different, becuase the input to the mic isn't comming back out of the speakers, so why am i getting feedback? biketrialler
Either a shit microphone... or... how do you know you are getting feedback, if it isnt coming out of the speakers.
JT!
Either a shit microphone... or... how do you know you are getting feedback, if it isnt coming out of the speakers. It is comming out the speakers, becuase i can hear it. What i don't understand is why any noise is comming out of the speakers in the first place. When you talk into a computer mic the sound dosn't come strigh back out the speakers.
biketrialler
Read what you wrote, it doesnt make any sense. You say the microphone comes out of the speakers. Then you say it shouldnt. Then you say it doesnt. (Y)

But when i do turn the mic on, i get feedback. Fact. :P Edited November 10, 2005 by JT!
biketrialler
Im not on a crappy windows computer here... but its something like... start... programs... accessories... entertainment... volume control. click file. there is some kind of setting thing on there, or 'show' or something, where you select what levels to show. make it so you can see microphone on input and output. then mute the microphone output. i think that might do what you want it to. if that doesnt work, the mic is a piece of shit, get an external one! edit: oh, and the reason might be magnetic interference - just because you cant hear it doesnt mean there isnt any. its probably because laptop stuff generally isnt as well protected or work as well as bigger, more dedicated external equipment with proper shielding :turned: Edited November 10, 2005 by Bennifer

There was a setting on saying "Mic boost" when i turned that off it stopped the feedback. Still, tapping the mic does bring sound out of the speakers. :turned: Cheers for the help in both topics. :P Edited November 10, 2005 by JT! Josephine
Well, yeah i know that's sort of the problem. When you talk into a computer mic it dosn't come out of the speakers.. Think again! It does, unless you set it not to. Start > Programs > Accesories > Volume control > Options > Properties, make sure the 'Microphone' box is checked, and hey presto a microphone control will appear in the window; click mute, problem solved. biketrialler
Try recording from the microphone in sound recorder, with it set to mute. Obviously when you speak, you wont hear anything, but when you play the recording back, it should be there...

CBProductions
Pc/Laptop microphones are usually cheap as chips and pick up everything around them i.e someone in the next room moving its silly. Just ensure some distance from the speakers then you can run your microphone at full gain if it still does it then youve got setting issues .
