Houseface
hey people, is it true that you can get higher sidehoping to both wheels rather than to front wheel or to back wheel? steve.

tipus
I don't think so. It's more what you are comfortable with i guess... Neil and Craig does it to both wheels, but i've seen pro's like Belay and Vincent put the front wheel in first. It gives a more controled feel, you never know if you'r rear wheel is going to make it up the wall if you do it to both wheels. If you put the front wheel in first you can control where you want you'r rearwheel to land. So it's up yo you what you feel most confident with. Confidens is a big part of sidehoping......... i guess..... corect me if i'm wrong.. Edited November 7, 2005 by tipus
Will Arnold
i remember chris swallow telling me that he and adam burns could get higher sidehops to the back wheel. and chris could sidehop silly high, so yeah i guess it depends on how you ride and what feels more comfortable. i feel its best going slightly to front wheel then gamming on both brakes, thus pivoting le back wheel onto wall :( i've tried to both wheels two, which i tend to do on dead thin stuff :D
Houseface
thanks guys, gotta start practicing to both wheels then :( steve.
poopipe
i find it amazing you even get a choice. im still at the yay! i made it without sliding off again stage. im finding to front then both getes me the most height- you can kinda hoik the back up that way
Ducko
its all personal prefferance i think, i sidehop to front wheel then pull the back end up but as will said on thin things going to two wheels is beter as its more accurate (for some unknown reason  ) just learn both (Y)
Ali C
just learn sidehops, the technique will come as you learn. I am a slow learner when it comes to sidehops, I have been trying them for 3 years and I am only just now begining to get a good techinque because I have found a comfortable way of doing them. Waynio
i find trying to go to 2 wheels always helps a bit more a quick snap on the bars and dont use the front brake and bending legs and compressing the tyre as much as possible. its weird..........but they do feel good when you get them right. TheMunn
I find it easier to go to two wheels aswell, when landing flat and feel comfortable landing like that I think its easier to sidehop over things like rails etc. to have the bike flat over the rail and help it over, not like having the rear wheel lower that you might hit it and fall toward the floor resulting in some degree of pain ? Damon W
i used to go to front wheel then lean over front wheel to fook to get back end up. but didnt like it and realised it looked wank so learned to go to 2 wheels hard to stop putting weight forward at first but then its mint.... easy as pie (not that pie is easy it hurts my teeth :D ) going to 2 wheels seem to require more power then frontwheel aswell as its all just one big hop.............rather then leaning ect ect plus not many people going big with sidehops go to front wheel, most go to 2 wheels. must be something in the water ^_^

spode@thinkbikes
Well, if you're landing on the backwheel I wouldn't consider it a side hop - it's basically a back hop. I think landing two wheels, if you miss, you are more likely to hit your rear mech/discs etc. So I usually land it a little on the front (not too much) just so you have the option of bailing out. I don't think landing on the front first affects your accuracy. Then using the same method, you can eventuallyland on the front straight into front hops, or flick yourself from the front wheel to the back wheel. Naturally, I start with two wheels on the ground. I'm seeing a lot of people starting on the back wheel first. In my eyes, that's not a sidehope. Two Wheels to Two Wheels..... It is however a fairly good technique for getting up things, especially if you kick in to it first to gain some momentum.
Dan6061
I've been sidehopping to rear wheel recently. Probably because the thing i've been sidehopping onto is really small (17"?) so it's alot easier. But I'm starting to get sidehops to rear+front wheel too now. Just need to practise more... :D
Bessell
For me i think it all depends on what i am hopping on to as to what way i do it. most of the time though i go to both wheels.
Janson
i go to front wheel first, but it's not a big pivot up to get the back wheel onto the ledge. i have not got the best technique in the world though, because i rarely practise sidehops. Pauly
hmmn i sidehop to both wheels i feel very comfertable with this and i cant do that high at all if i do it to my front wheel and if i press any of my brakes i tend to mess up to, any of you who were on the haloween brum ride proberly saw that i tend to just roll up the walls (Y) lol it works for me but i guess its because i ride with tuni alot so i just pick up what he dose  Pauly
Biff...
No (Y) Just what ever you prefer but it's easier to front wheel.
