Houseface
hey, i just heard that the new echo bb cant take ffw.... why is this? is it not wide enough?? steve.
AdamR28
why is this? It has external bearings - theres not enough room for a freewheel to fit.
Mark W
The bearings are external, and the bearing housing is too big to fit a FFW on. It's 128mm in length, just like the FSA/Truvativ/Try-All/etc. BB's, but the bearing housing is wider, and so you can't get a freewheel on there... EDIT: Adam sucks. :( Edited November 7, 2005 by Onzaboymark

nafan
Bad move echo, I thought more and more people are going for ffw cranks nowadays... :(
Ali C
I think they are ace, I have been waiting patiently for a wide outboard bb to come into the market, I hope the bearings are decent enough. You can colour code them to your bike too, very pimp :(
Tom Booth
is it just the tabs that would foul on the outer bearing case of the bb? if so could the tensile freewheel be an option for those wanting to run the echo bb?? Cheers Tom

downhill_rob2@hotmail.com
Im sure that echo have went for the option that you have to buy their rear cog hub aswell as their B/B so that they get more money i guess....

Or decided to produce an outboard bb for the trials world, only drawback doesn't fit ffw :(
Houseface
wouldnt they make just as much money selling them to ffw users and fixed cog users too?? steve.
downhill_rob2@hotmail.com
wouldnt they make just as much money selling them to ffw users and fixed cog users too?? steve. No, because, if you already have FFW and absolutly want to the echo BB and you dont want any other than that one for some reason, then if you cant fit your FFW cranks on it, then you would have to have a rear cog hub, like the new echo hubs, so that way, echo are making more money, buy you having to buy both (Y)
stubert
the majority of riders seem to use freehubs nowadays, im saying majority, as i know alot of freewheel users, and im one myself. this bottom bracket is seemingly really strong with the outboard bearings and would be my choice if i ever get a freehub setup
Mark W
That's the thing. We're assuming that the bearings will last, but that might not be the case. Might be amazing, but I'd prefer to wait and see how long the bearings last before bandying round the phrase "strong" or "reliable" like people are in other threads... Endohopper
That's the thing. We're assuming that the bearings will last, but that might not be the case ... That's right , though some readers on T-F may be concerned only with trials , and not realise the concept has adorned Shimano's top range for a year or so now . The external BB concept is tried and tested , but it remains to see whether Echo's version of it is well manufactured , and can withstand sustained trials abuse . Gotta be said though , they look pretty neat and I'd be surprise if Deng & Co haven't tested it exhaustively . I'll definately go for it ( in blue , of course ) if I read favourable reports on here .
