Building A Pc

Right, I'm building up my own PC. I need some advice.

Do I need an AGP slot to run my graphics card, is a radeon 9800.

Was looking at this motherboard nForce4 Ultra (939)

Can I put my graphics card on there?

Going to have a Athlon 64 3500 processor on there too, 512mb RAM.

So guys, anyone know the answer, could I run it on there?

I've used that board before, it's good and cheap.

However, it is PCI Express so won't work with your graphics card. Nforce 4 is PCI-E only.

512MB of ram is still plenty and you can always put a little more in later. However, the "benefit" of Socket 939 over Socket 754 is Dual Channel memory. If you are only going to have one stick of memory, you will only be running in Single Channel mode, potentially halving the memory bandwidth. In reality, it doesn't make that much difference mind you...

If your budget is low, perhaps get a Sempron 3300+ and a Socket 754 motherboard with PCI-Express (such as the Foxconn NF4K8AB-8EKRS). The little bit of money you save means you could buy a new graphics card too.

Buying an AGP motherboard now would be a waste of time as almost new graphics cards being launched are PCI Express. What is your current system? You might find it better value in the long run to hold out until your 9800 Pro is no longer cutting it and then upgrading the whole lot.

Cheers for the info mate. I must have posted just after you.

I'm not all that clever with PC's. Rememeber that.

I'd just like to build one fr myself. I could always sell my Radeon not too old. Plus there is a small market for them.

So the nForce 4 graphics cards are PCI?

So I can run one of those instead. Its not something I'm going to rush to build, so I can spend some money on it.

Heres another question, shall I go intel or amd?

lol

Been looking at these bundles. Intel seem to be at stupid prices.

AGP is not bad, it's just the new graphics cards aren't going to be build for it. It's just future protection.

Dude, there is nothing wrong with your current machine. If you want better gaming performance, just buy a new graphics cards! You could probably overclock that chip a little too.

You would be wasting a lot of money upgrading what you have, for very little performance increase.

Thing is, this is the family computer. I want one of my own. That I know the inns and outs of. With a nice case.

I just want a gaming machine that I'vebuilt myself that can go in my bedroom.

So what motherboards can you reccomend that can take PCI express graphics cards.

Another question, I want to buy this ATX case CLICK HERE

But it dosn't come with a psu, would all atx psu units fit in there?

Gotcha.

Then go for the Foxconn NF4K8AB-8EKRS, get a Sempron 3300+ and a gig of Crucial or Kingston memory (nice and cheap). then you can overclock that.

And then buy a new graphics card too.

Yes, any ATX power supply will fit that case. Although I'm not big on Thermaltake cases I have to admit...

whats your budget? and ill knock up a quick spec that i would recommend.

Oh and btw, while that PSU is pretty damn good, and provides nice consistant power, it is a little on the loud side, i would recommend going for one of the tagan easycon ones that has a modular design whereby you can remove the cables you dont need.
