biketrialler
A wireless router (any brand, not just apples one), get it with a built in adsl modem. my netgear is solid. get an airport extreme card in your ibook, im running one in my powerbook typing this right now and its great. zoojames
The AirPort extreme is a tad pricey (£139) and doesn't it mean you can connect anywhere with a Wi-Fi service? Because I only need it in my house... So any wireless router will sort me out? Brilliant, cheers mate  James (Y)
biketrialler
an airport extreme card, if you dont have wireless is only £60 ? if your ibook already has wireless obviously you dont need the card! so like i said, just get a netgear router, they are like 60-80 squid. Tomm
All new iBooks come with airport extreme as standard anyway. So you won't need to buy that, and you'll be able to get straight onto WiFi hotspots with your iBook. Then you just need a router for your house. I assume your NTL modem has 2 connectors (I think they all do), so use an ethernet cable instead of the USB connection. And then you will need to buy a router - I use a Netgear WGR614 and it works fine, but there are plenty of other options. Shouldn't be more than £40 ish I think. You do not want a router with a modem built in, that won't work with NTL.
zoojames
Right Tomm so use ethernet to connect my modem to my pc and usb to the router or the other way round? Sorry bout this, I've never run my modem via ethernet due to not havinga cable! Want to name me a good source of routers anyone? Cheers James
Tomm
Nah, unplug the USB cable and throw it away. Then plug it in like this: Ntl modem --> (WAN port) Router (LAN port) --> PC Using all ethernet cables. You should have got at least one with your modem. Should be more obvious when you get the router  I bought my router from eBay. If not then just have a look on internet computer shops eBuyer, Scan, Dabs, Aria, Microdirect etc.
