nafan
When I got my pitbull a couple of weeks back I realised I could perhaps take advantage of having lots of foam from the posting packaging, and just so I don't destroy my lovely new chainstay (non-drive side) when I'm sidehopping onto big hard things... I thought I would make use of the foam... (Bearing in mind I have only just starting trying to sidehop on the floor and I'm not confident yet...) But... Would it actually protect the frame or would it smash it up if I landed on it anyway.... And no I haven't got any pallets but I might be able to steal some from down the road.... as a last resort... Cheers lads, Nathan :P :) Edited November 2, 2005 by nafan
Dan6061
It wouldn't exactly 'smash it up' it'll probably just scratch it. Or if you land quite hard, perhaps dent it.
Bionic Balls
i don't think foam'd be worth it.....and strapping palletes onto your chainstays is difficult and heavy. Best way...i reckon....is zip tie some old inner tube, or some old tyre on. El gato's are perfect... adam

(dont know if the elgatos have wire beads :D ) I just have some hose pipe on mine ATM, did have inner tube, but just change! P.S, if its the foam im thinking of, then it will save your chan stay, its pretty good stuff. my mate used to have ti on his downtube and stopped it from dinting. but watch out for it ripping though! poopipe
it cant do any harm really can it? - I'm using an inner tube covered in gaffertape at the moment - theres no reason why foam covered in gaffertape wouldnt work. i like gaffertape, im trying to find more places to put it

That was funny lol :P I don't know whether I'm gona try and sidehop anyways, I'm not sure yet, but anyways, thanks for the ideas lads, I'll probs wait a bit then just go for it with some foam and rubber strapped to my chainstay. All secured by some gaffertape :D :D :D lol :P
TomN
I just zip tied a old grip onto my chainstay when I use to sidehop to my choc foot but since i swap and sidehop other way I find i dont hit my chainstay as i find my crank/pedal hits the wall first and then i put my foot down. Houseface
i used to use some for about 2 weeks before it got all torn up and stuff. worked suprisingly well for me,only one or 2 scratches plus its not really going to make you bike heavier so give it a try and see what happens. and i also put a small amout of cardboard underneath the foam and it woked a treat. steve. trials_pimp
The best thing you can do is Sweet FA. It will look shit, and just be damn pointless. My pitbull chainstays have taken a damn beating from cocked up sidehops, and they still havent broken. Sure they might be a little scratched. IF YOU BIKE ISNT SCRATCHED< YOUR NOT RIDING HARD ENOUGH stop pussying about cleaning, poishing and crying when you scratch it, RIDE
Si-man
Hosepipe does the trick with me. Whats wrong with not wanting to scratch your bike??
Tomm
better if the tyre hasnt got a wire bead in it, so it goes straight. Cut the bead off. And then you don't have to try and cut through the bead, which is really hard (you'll destroy your saw/cutters) anyway. But I'm with TrialsPimp - Just leave it and get a couple of scratches, it's not the end of the world.
nafan
I don't care much but I've only had it for 2 weeks and I'm not really loving the idea of wrecking it... YET B) :-
Synergy
one of my mates used to cut a bit of his hose of and slice it open.
rich4130
one of my mates used to cut a bit of his hose of and slice it open. Best way. Cableties will get broken, use hose clips instead, jubilee clips etc.
trials_pimp
I've only had it for 2 weeks Thats no excuse. One of My old bikes I dented the top tube the day I got it. My Zoo got scratched the day I got it. These things happen. Dont be one of those Poofters "ah I dont wanna do that, I might scratch my bike" Ride, stack, learn
Mark W
Yes, but if you want to try and protect it to stop damaging the frame, there's nothing wrong with that. I'd rather have a bit of innertube zip-tied to my stay to try and stop any chunkage/dentage from f**ked up sidehops than have loads of scratches to look big 'n' hard or whatever. Frames aren't cheap, and therefore I'd rather not have to buy them more frequently just for the sake of a zip-tie and some innertube. Yes, joy of joy, you haven't broken your frame, but other frames do die. Ah well, never get to be in the WYC or whatever now :-
trials_pimp
Not woth that attitude you wont
Janson
I used to have a grip ziptied to my chainstay. Then I changed frames and could not be bothered. My frame will probably crack somewhere else first. After about 10-20 missed sidehops you learn to either go to the dropout of the frame or take it with the crank/pedal...
