Luke Drewery
Hi, I wasn’t sure where to put this but I have been practicing static hopping recently and I am gradually getting higher but was wondering how you guys do it? I can get about bar height from two wheels but can’t do the tuck to the side technique. I have seemed to reach my limit because the back wheel hits my arse, I need to learn to tuck it to the side like Tunni, cls, TRA etc but wasn’t sure how you guys go about learning? It seems such a hard technique! Anyway, here is s a clip of me doing one of my highest; it’s about bar height; http://www.eengoedidee.nl/videoz/bike-trials/me_nice_003.mov Any pointers would be nice. :(

TheMunn
I found this when I was on my stock, realised that I needed to alter my technique a little, practice is what you need to do, don't go and try on your biggest sidehop, just an average one for you and try getting the whole lean off the side, I tryed for a couple days just doing sidehops to get it. So get you there and practice!
Impacted.
ENOUGH of the clips make a video for christs sake! WERD! But actually the tucking came naturally for me ever since my first sidehops, so it's wierd that you have to make an actual effort to tuck. You need to really throw your bike sideways, then the tucking has to happen on it's own. Edited November 1, 2005 by Impacted.
Luke Drewery
ENOUGH of the clips make a video for christs sake! Ok guys I dont want to get into an argument but I AM NOT PUTTING THESE CLIPS UP TO SHOW MY RIDING, I am using them as a means for people to give me pointers on my technique, I figured it helps if there is a clip too so you can see where I am going right/wrong rather than me just explaining in words. Dont download the clip if you dont want to... Cheers for the advice so far though guys. :(
Ali C
I am also trying to learn to tuck. I can do it on sidehops, but only to front wheel landing. I can do it just sidehopping i the air too, but when it comes to landing on a wall, it goes out of the window :(
Impacted.
Yeah, you do realise that you won't be able to sidehop then tuck without a wall, well it'll be a lot harder anyway. Also I couldn't really make out if you were pedaling much but I find that the more power I put into kicking the pedals the higher I get, I think it's generally true anyway. Yeh I suppose it would be harder without a wall to aim for but I have noticed really good riders do tuck the bike to the side whether they are just doing a static hop into the air or onto a wall. I want to get the technique dialled on these kind of hops beofre I move onto walls which require more confidence...
Luke Drewery
Anyone else? :P
Bionic Balls
it's no different whether there is a wall or not...just watch benito or some crazy zoo b*****d sidehopping over something. i don't really know...it's definitely easier to go sideways if you land front wheel first though...maybe just phase the front wheel out gradually, IE: get closer to landing on both wheels together. aye adam
