Demon_trials
hi every one, i was wondering if anyone would be able to help me to get started? what would be the best set of forks be for an old style t-rex, i only have around £45 but can stretch to around £55. does it matter on the 'name' or 'brand' at all really?, what is the most reliable 'brand' in general and who generally has the best service?any help or advice would be much appreciated B) thanks. also another quick question if thats ok. (Y) well two actually. B) B) are drilled rims any good and what is the difference to a solid rim?, and is the weight a lot different?, i was looking at a new rear hub as my onza hub has packed it in now and i was looking at a hub that will last a long time, i looked at chris kings but people say they skip a lot, and is the phrase 'hope have excellent customer service' true and how did they get that reputation any examples would be greatly appreciated many thanks Demon_trials oh and great forum and great sport (Y)
ollie
tarty bikes have an excelent service. as for the forks i can't help you there as i ride a mod (Y) and as you say a drilled rim is to save weight and makes your bike look pimp with some decent coloured rim tape! so check out tarty bikes! hope i help ollie
Martin
you could get the tuff guys, their £45 pounds from tarty bikes but i dont think you will be able to get a very wide range of forks with that budget. hope hubs are good i think but i have heard of them skipping just as much. they have got an awsome service. drilled rims do save weight and look stylish (i think), their not meant to make a rim that much weaker either. Demon_trials
thanks for that, would it be worth getting used forks for better money, same for hubs? demon_trials
fredrico
I think if your on a budget then check in the for sale section on here or have a look on ebay. i think it is worth having a look at second hand wheels because you can pick up some pretty decent ones for very good prices. Hopes are great and will last, my mate has a hope xc and when it skips it instantly catches itself straight after so hope would be a great investment. As for forks have a look on ebay as there are many going for cheap. Hope this helps.
Jsy Ben
So if your just getting into the swing of trials again then ... for forks i would recommend Onza Tuff guys :P there a great "budget option" they will last a reasonable amount of time aslong as you dont ride the stupidly roughly which i dont think is going to be a problem ;) and as for a hub , hope xc :- there super , looks and reliabilty ! Some peoples hubs will skip because of lack of maintainace , simply cleaning the freehub and pawls etc lil bits with a toothbrush will keep it running smooth. I myself have switched from stock 26" to mod 20" so i do have a blue hope xc in very good almost mint working condition :D if your interested in it i can sell it £40 posted ? :P hope my lil ramble helps ;)
Mark W
Drilled rims do help a surprisingly large amount. I went from undrilled DM-24 to drilled Try-All (fair weight saving), and it did make a lot of difference. Saves a lot of rotational weight, which really does affect the ride of your bike. Saying that, forks that won't snap like twigs is slightly more important if you're starting out. The TufGuys should be pretty good in that price range, to be fair.
