sfboy
Right, I need a phone line, 'cos at uni they charge an extortionate ammount to call out, so I'm thinking VOIP is the way. I've downloaded skype and sipgate but found them to be both annoying: Skype has a nice gui and everything but its £7 for credit which only lasts 6 months do I accept this or not? Sipgate seems to have no credit buying system so I have no idea how they charge you. Also I wish to use softphone (similar to skype) to make calls but can't find it on their website. Are these the cheapest VOIP providers or does anyone reccommend any better ones? thanks
Boothy
Is this for an internet connection or something? As I don't see whats wrong with a mobile?

tomturd
Skype has a nice gui and everything but its £7 for credit which only lasts 6 months do I accept this or not? Seeing as line rental for BT costs a tenner a month on its own then yep.. If your using a uni connection make sure skype works in the first place, they might have blocked the ports... you can phone people for free as long as the person your calling also has skype. sfboy
I've tested it using the skype test call... does this mean the port isn't blocked.. i don't wish to splash out and not be able to use it.
sfboy
And the results for skype... ten euros of credit cost £8 - which is actually 11.50 euros - bit annoying. But it is still cheaper than uni telecom fees.
