Single Speed Cogs

Yo Dudes,

My drivetrain is getting pretty old now, so i am looking to get new stuff.

Getting a KHE collapse :ermm:

but the main thing was my rear sprocket, i have had it on about 7 chains, so i think is time for a new one!

my options basically are

standard cog - what i am using at the moment

DX/gusset cog - are these any different from a standard cassette cog? wider?

surely single speed cog - they are wider, but are they any good?

king cog - bit expenisive really, but always an option.

yeah, so what does everyone use? problems, etc - oh yeah running steel king

mike

dx all the way that is what i use reliable and just down right good really i used to use the king cogs but for some unknown reason everytime that i had a new chain i would have to have a new cog which gob smaked me really because when you pedaled on it the chain used to slip and the only way to sortthis problem was that i had to buy a new cog. :ermm: dx B)

another vote for dx :ermm: i havent personally owned the surly or king versions and dont really intend too either, since the dx is capable enough B) basically the difference between a dx and a standard cog is the teeth are deeper from what i can see, as well as the cog being thicker than standard (only an ickle bit) so theres less chance of you folding it over (ive done it to normal cogs and seen others do it) and they seem to last ages......well mines a few years old and doesnt appear to have worn at all B)

ooo and they are only like 3-4quid too so its not gonna lighten you wallet to much :D

I remember when your chain came off and you smacked the bars, dunno how you put up with a normal cog for so long, I have a 13t one for speed, and that slips off sometimes, I'd be scared to use one for trials..

DX Will doooo.

'ardcore thats me ;) that wasn't fun - i have learnt to predict when it will come off now hahaha - i can just tell by the way it feels. time for a change though...

ended up going for one of these, they look pretty burly and have a wider base than the dx too, still cheap. We will see eh...

TAPE Spline-Cogs

for Tape Rear Cassette Hub with Spline type fitting.

Lets hope the 'Tape Rear Hub' is a standard spline pattern... let us know how it goes Mike! ;)

Edit: Just checked, they are indeed a Shimano HG spline ;)
