Dan6061
Hoping to get About £200 this month from work because of the overtime I've done. Anyway... Looking about on Tartybikes and I really wanna get a Profile hub. But, I have those really cheap nast monty cranks with the fixed 24t chainring... and I'm wondering what size cog or whatever has the prfile got? (im running an 18t ACS at the moment) I'm guessing i'll need new cranks with the profile? Do you think its worth it? Or should I just run my ACS on the front with a 12t fixed cog? (don't really want a ENO...)
Hobnobs
Save the money and get a king. Profile comes with a 12t i beleive, so yes you will need new cranks, grab some second hand musclemans with an 18t cog from for sale section for like 15-20 quid, and your off. Siders77
Get the Profile. :ermm: The best change I ever made was from FFW to a Profile. I would get some Monty cranks too and use an 18 tooth sprocket. The Profiles come with a 12 tooth sprocket I think. B)
CurtisRider
whats actually wrong with an eno? i think pretty much everybody on here who owns 1 raves on about them i like mine lots :ermm:
Dan6061
I'm not saying theres anything wrong with them, I just don't want to spend how ever much on a freewheel really... (much rather have a Profile) So what would I need? I'm likin'; the Echo cranks...18t sprocket you say? which one? Where from? etc etc... EDIT: looked on Tartybikes... :ermm: So it's going to cost me £273 to get it all working.... Might ask my Dad... Si-man
I changed from 12t to 13t on my profile, feels alot nicer B) Takes a while to get used to though :ermm: Is alot slacker, can get an extra 1/4 to 1/2 pedal stroke in, can't explain it lol
Dan6061
Think I've got my plan sorted. Spend £117 at the end of this month on: Echo Cranks Onza 12 fixed cog Echo Team booster (needed) New Creepy Crawler Then at the end of next month Spend £218 on: Profile on Ronnie with Mutiny Spokes Onza 18t Fixed cog Unless a 2nd Hand one pops up... :ermm: or if there's a way of bodging an 18t cog on a profile... aaron_trials _247
u dont need a new front cog u can just use the freewheel and if your sketchy use it as it is but its risky get it welded up good as a fixed cog DAN
Technical Tom
You don't need new cranks, just buy the wheel off tartybikes and just ask them to put an 18t cog on it instead of a 12t one, i'm getting a profile wheel deal like you and i need a 16t because i run a middleburn cranks on the front 22t. I have e-mailed tarty asking if they could do it for my wheel so i see no reason why they couldn't get an 18t cog in unless profile don't make it. Thanks, Tom Edited October 25, 2005 by onza_tom123
AdamR28
or if there's a way of bodging an 18t cog on a profile... :ermm: It wouldn't even be a bodge! We can supply the Profile Mini Cassette Hubs with whatever size sprocket you like, its just that 12T is most common. So, you could get the hub as standard with an 18T, then when you have enough mouey to upgrade your cranks, whack an 18T up front and buy a 12T for the rear - sorted B) Adam Edit: Oops, didn't read what Tom put above... thanks Tom! SQuiT-man
12:18 (most common mod gearing) is the same as 16:24, not 18:24! So perhaps it would be better to get a 16t cog on your profile if you want to run it with a 24t front cog? However, what cranks are you running with the ACS? Why dont you just take the ACS off of those and put a screw-on cog onto them? Thats what I have done, as with most profile users it seems. EDIT: Ohhh, I think I read your post wrong... when you say you are currently running a 18t ACS, did you mean on the rear? If so, just get a profile with 16t or 18t cog, or whatever suits your fancy. nb88
I'd go for 18:12 so you get good clearance. The new echo cranks are good, i bought some for my mod, very solid and much better than the older echo's. Get an 18t cog from tartys (onza, echo, whatever, theyre all the same...) and get the profile with a 12t cog on the driver B) sorted. It is a hell of a lot of money though, id look at getting a 2nd hand profile hub/wheel. Then again i think the same about most parts, and everything on my bike is 2nd hand :ermm: . Profiles are the dogs dangleys compared to freewheels B) and literally take about 5 minutes to clean and service....i just used thin castrol oil in it and it worked a charm with no skips. Also very strong and smooth - has got 4 bearing cartridgess in the driver, 2 in hub shell.

Dan6061
These are the cranks i'm using: The chainring is hard to remove and hard to find a smaller cog to fit them. (Why i'm after new cranks) When I got my T-Bird it had 18:24 gearing, so I stayed with that. I'm going to buy the echo crankas and 12t cog, then when I get enough I'll buy the profile wheel and 18t cog. No more help needed really.. mat hudson
So it's going to cost me £273 to get it all working.... yet only 150 tops to get an eno working, that would be with sexelent cranks too. (Y)
