i had a ceramic, twas pretty darn decent but was towards the end of its life (Y) but it was equal to a grind

the ceramic on the base you are gettin is like new however, and from my experience of using it, it kicks bum bum :D its not uber loud and performs well in the wet, ceramic coatings are in effect like a grind in the way that the coating is kinda rough, like really fine sandpaper(im finding this hard to explain) and so thats part of the way it compares with a grind, its betetr to modulate too, as its more of a consistant surface

dont forget to get a ceramic rubber (get a tile 1 from a diy store for a fiver, not an official mavic one at 20quid :D ) and thatll keep it fresh ^_^

dont grind it, if you dont like it ill take it off your hands :)

Def go with ceramic.

Ive just got me a new bike built, and the rear wheel i got has a D521 ceramic rim, hardly used. Got plazmatic CRMs on, and is very nice, aolhtough i havent used in anger. great bit and hold, but still has the modulation of a smooth rim, and great pad wear too (Y)

I have a D521 Ceramic. It's lush, I think it feels better than a grind and it has never needed anything but a wipe with muck off. The Ceramic coating is a mixture of aluminium oxide and titanium oxide, applied with a plazma torch. So basically the particles are ionized so they stick to the rim, then heated up really hot with electricity.

Works really well. If it feels like it is loosing power, wash your bike, then cover the ceramic with muck off or similar, but insead of washing it, wipe it with paper towell and your brake will be imense.

Most people find they work sound with standard magura black pads, but I like locky brakes and found ether Monty Hydras or Plazmatic CRMs to be best. (Y) Mine is loud as fook aswell. :D

does it have the bite and the hold like a grind or better.

thanks for the help people (N)

It probably won't bit as sharply, (I'd say that's a good thing) but I'm pretty sure the holds the same. The man to ask would be tart, I know he ran a 521 ceramic and then a grind, whereas I have only had short goes on peoples bikes with grinds. (Y)
