Basicly, on my echo pure atm i'm running 22 on the front and 18 on the back and it feels like im constant riding through treacle! i have come from a mod though to stock. But other 26inchers have tried my setup and feel it needs to be geared a little easier. So do i...

A) swap the front 22 for a 20?

or

:P swap the rear 18 for a 20?

either way, i have NO CLUE what i'm doing/talking about, so someone please advise me, all i wanna do is get is in a slighty easier to pedal gear :P

cheers, love you all

Alex

PPS - forgot to add i'm running 165 cranks, so take this into account :P

I use 22:19 and it feels good. I used to think it was too easy but ive got used to it now. Find it easier for static gaps and taps, but i cant really do rolling gaps anymore as if i get much speed i cant pick up the bike with the cranks. 22:18 should be fine really? just take some getting used to.

I went from a mod to a stock aswell, about a month or 2 ago.

You could try 22/19 if you want something a touch easier. I think 22/20 would be far too easy (Y)

Play arround with the calculator in my signature :S

I ran 22:20 for a while and it felt nice, I have moved to 20:17 now though and its feels awesome, not too hard so the bike feels light and it still gives enough power on gaps.

Thats with 175mm middleburns by the way. I think you should try and swap your cranks for longer ones, 165 on a stock wont give you the power you need for bigger gaps and it feels strange too. (Y)

i would but no one wants to swap 165's for 175s (Y)

Will 10mm really make that much difference then?

I currently run 170mm rubbish cranks and have the opportunity to get some 170mm 'burns for cheap.

Would going to 175mm be that much better and worth hanging on till i can find some or save for a new set?

Or will the 5mm difference not be noticable?

Sorry for hijacking the thread

I wouldnt bother...i dont notice any difference between 170s and 175s...or 165s really to be honest. Just ride, stop worrying about length of cranks
