plainlazy84
I got loads of spyware crap on my laptop ages ago and despite trying several spyware removal programmes i couldnt shift it. I got so pissed off i resorted to doing a full reinstallation of windows XP. But thats where the problem is. It would get about 3/4 of the way through the installation only for it to randomly restart. I have tried starting again literally 20 times but the same thing happens. Now its even worse and it turns its self off within 30 seconds. Its not the battery as its connected to the mains. The local laptop shop quoted me £45 p/h just to look at it and there is a two week waiting list- bollocks to that! does anyone have any ideas what i can do to get the bar steward working? it stays on if i hit f8 and f12 but not if i start the reinstallation. if anyone can help me get it working I'll buy them a pint, or soft drink if under 18! (as you probably wont live in brighton i might well have to send the cash value of a Pint/ soft drink bought at the 'King and Queen' Brighton in the post instead ^_^)
Danny
Is it a restore cd supplied by the laptop manufacturer or a standard windows xp cd?
plainlazy84
Its a copied version of XP. it shouldnt be a problem with that though as i have tried two different copies.
Tomm
Is it getting too hot? Try cleaning as much crap out of it as possible and try the installation in a cool place, see if that works. If it gets too hot it will restart.

quick_spider
It's common on laptops for the power socket/plug on the power supply to fail. This means the battery wont charge. Set it up running off the mains without the battery in it - see if it works at all. Wiggle the plug in the socket and see changes the situation. If it is buggered then try to assertain whether it's the socket, or the lead - check the voltage and polarity of the power supply and try an borrow one off someone else (A lot of them have the same plug) A PSU is relatively cheap to replace. To repair/replace the socket on the motherboard is expensive. Once it's in a stable state then you can look at sorting out XP. Jon
