cp101
In comparison, what are the advantages and dis-advantages of a longer wheelbase, a shorter wheelbase, etc.
Tony Harrison
On the whole shorter bikes are easier to throw around and spin about on, but harder for 'pure' trials moves like taps and replaces. Currently there's a bit of a divide - there are lots of guys on short bikes and 24" wheel bikes doing streety stuff that seems to have been labelled 'Shit BMX' (probably by 'comp' riders who can't ride street). Then you get riders of loooong bikes that prefer to try and get up stuff/ride using trials moves, where a longer wheelbase is better. Horses for courses though, and there is no right or wrong. In my experience the best length bike is around 1055-1065 with riser bars. This is because you can comfortably tap/sidehop/etc, ride comps and do 'trials' moves, but you can also play about doing fun streety spinny stuff. It's like middle ground, and there are lots of frames at that length to choose from. I found a 1020 wheelbase bike limited what I could do, but when I've borrowed 1100 bikes with low front ends they feel (to me) uncomfortable - I can see how they are good for doing taps and that but I'd soon get bored. Martin
yeah, most people find it easier to chuck shorter bikes about but if you are tall a long bike may be easier because a shorter bike may feel to small.
