How Do These Work?

Was browsing through thetrialsinshop.com and found this:

I've always wanted to get rid of my shifter but I wanted to keep my gears, so does this give me a full range of gears? and how do they work ?

i think they are just a cheap and easy way to get single speed.. but i could be wrong.. i dont think you could change through each gear with them though

You turn it to change your gears, like a grip shift but behind your arse.

you owuld probably only get 2 or 3 gears out of it, not the full range as a barrel adjuster doesnt pull a lot of cable. good if you have a two speed set up with a trials gear and a getting around gear.

so if I have a 8 speed cassette and use the 19T for trials and 13T for a getting around gear, can this be adjusted to switch between those two gears ? or do I have to have two individual rings ?

if you had them spaced on you cassette as that the range is to far for it to move em over but if you had the 19T then a spacer then the 13T it work
