Simon
Am i the only one that thinks this is a good idea then? (Y) I can fully understand where everyone is coming from. You need something that plays MP3's, to a decent quality, has a screen so you can select the song you wan't, and enough storage for the average collecter. However, using trials as an example. You've just started talking to someone, and you mention you ride bike trials, they of course don't have a clue what you're talking about. Whip out the I-Pod and show them. Same with any other obscure sport or what ever. I can see many pro's and con's for this, but you can with any new product. Personally, the only problem i have is with the b*****d price. Tomm
They are bringing out a phone, i think. I read about it and thats why sony brought out the w800iI doubt it, Apple are new best friends with Motorola who have brought out a new iTunes-enabled phone. Personally, the only problem i have is with the b*****d price. (N) It's not really any more expensive than the iPod photo though? I think the thing is that i's an update to the iPod, NOT a video-specific iTheatre or something. It still plays music the same as it did before, but now it's a bit thinner and you can get it in black. I don't see why everyone is moaning to be honest. I can't really see the point in watching videos on the little screen, but I also can't see the point in the old iPod being able to hold photos. Tomm
It's been out a few weeks, but it's really badly done by the looks of things. Anyway, there's a review HERE.
yoyoyo
That could be it, but it's not the one i thought about. I was probably wrong anyway (N) Edited October 13, 2005 by yoyoyo
Urpedigreechumdog
Screen too small, price too big..... Just use your current mp3 player for music, and wait till you get home to watch videos, simple.

Just use your current mp3 player for music, and wait till you get home to watch videos, simple. but if i was on a train, bus etc then having a personal video and mp3 player would be awesome, how long until they let you download games onto them. (N) If you can honestly justify spending too much money on an iPod to watch a video on the train then i feel sorry for you. Don't get me wrong i'm not anti the whole concept, i'd use one if they were free, but for however overpriced they are i can't see what drives people to buy one, you don't need to watch a video at every spare second. You can be just as easily entertained, for free, by looking at the different kinds of characters on the train. Or by laughing at foriegners that lock themselves in the toilet on the train and break the door open. See my avatar.
TomN
This new IPod looks better since it's thinner. I also like the idea of video playing dosen't matter if I don't use it that much it's the fact I have that option to use it at least once in a while. Also colour screen I perfer it to a black white screen looks much better colours bring a better mood etc like.
delusional
how long until they let you download games onto them. :D And then rename it the iNewton... Most music players these days are already getting pretty close to being PDAs. Don't get me wrong, more functionality isn't ever really a bad thing, but I do wander how long it is before they start coming with CF and/or SD slots. I think I'd rather just see the current crop of PDAs start being released with decent size hdds - the Zaurus already has a 4gig drive inside, so it's not far off. Mind you, by that point you may as well just buy an OQO :D

MaXsteri
then your a dimock :- :ermm: The only point i can see would be to view album covers, but that in itself is pointless. Its fine adding more features, but it gets to the point where a product starts to lose focus of its original purpose i think. As for playing video it might be good for some i guess but it doesn't suit me, i would rather wait until i get home to sit down and relax in a comfortable chair in front of a big screen than be packed in like a sardine on the train between some sweaty smelly old bastards squinting at a poxy screen
mod_rider
Looks nice but it's a lot of money and wouldn't use the video feature hardly ever. My dads mate has got an iMate I think it's called, and that is a full blown pda, and you can get a 4gb memory card, and its a touchscreen phone aswell. Was the nicest phone I've ever seen, about 3/4 the size of a 20GB ipod. They should make a phone that looks jus like the ipod, that would be sweet. Bit off topic, but I was wondering this. Well in this day and age you can get onto the internet from your phone pretty easy, and can probably get some network deal where you get loads of free internet minutes. Surely you can go on the internet and download skype, and then make calls through that somehow? Just an idea and probably wrong, anyone shed some light? Munki
I'd be more tempted to buy an iPod if it had a DAB radio in it. But right now all i need in my pocket is my K570i
manuel
Another big pile of sheeeeite from apple then.... why the f**k would you want a video player only on your music magigger ? ? ? so you have to go through all the hassle of down loading and probably a conversion to get it on there . . . and then you have to watch it on a poxy little screen . . . GREAT :- If you could record straight to mpeg-2 from composite in (like many other currently available players) then it may be useful but it cant so whats the point..... :ermm: another rip off from the knob jockeys at apple. oooh oooh but its got white headphones and a gay little scroll wheel.... NO. Edited October 14, 2005 by manuel
Janson
i like the scroll wheel better than fiddly little buttons. shame the polycarbonate covering the LCD cracked. screen still works, but looks ugly with a crack in it, and new screens are 40-50 quid... meh. holds all the songs i want and is small enough (ipod mini). video on smaller screens is pointless. i tried watching video on a phone, didn't work. tried on my dv cam, not too comfy on a train etc. Also, looks a lot wider than the regular ipod, which i reckon is a bit too bulky. i use the white 'phones cos my koss portapro phones broke. my white ones are broken too, but to a lesser extent. meh. :ermm:
Haz
Screen problems were a bad batch, Apple have offered to replace them as a priority. I don't care about the new iPod, I think the best thing is finally, Apple copied Microsoft! :ermm: Yes, Apple have also released Front Row, a MCE2005 equivelant add on to Tiger, and it looks almost exactly the same. LMFAO. That s going to be so awesome! I want it! :- Ohh and the new iMac is the sex, remote control and all the Biz, I want one of them too. Jake
I don't really get how people can be complaining about the new iPod, I mean what is there to complain about? If you were being forced to buy one then sure, complaining is fair, but what is the benefit of complaining about something which is just a piece of technology. How can you complain about an advance in technology? Even if you bought one, you wouldn't be forced to watch videos on it, you could still nuse it soley as an MP3 player if you wanted, but know that the functionality is there whenever you wanted. As far as I read, I think the new iPod is smaller than the old one, has an increased battery life AND plays videos, yet somehow it is worse than its predecessors? It has a colour screen, so it may as well play videos anyway. I think it's quite fairly priced, at the end of the day yeah this probably could have been created in the G1 stage, but Apple is a business, and they have something like 4% of the computer market in comparison to PC's, so the iPod is being taken slowly I guess to raise awareness about Apple. At the end of the day, the design is excellent, ease of use is awesome, integration with iTunes is great, literally plug it in and it's all there for you to use, and it's new 20 hour battery life competes with many other MP3 players on the market... Alexx
oh my gosh... bigger screen... thats IT :) Another AWSOME update from apple. (reminds me of the jump from g3-g4, asin the changed the scroll wheel and called it a new ipod). Like danny said you've been able to play video on ipods since about Gen2 (even without colour screen)... hell you can even play video on the nano if you know how lol. You can install a whole OS onto the ipod lol. :P

(reminds me of the jump from g3-g4, asin the changed the scroll wheel and called it a new ipod). No one is calling it a new iPod though are they? It's just a slightly revised version of the normal iPod that is better in every way. If you want it, buy it. If you don't want it, don't? I don't see the problem to be honest. Alexx
No one is calling it a new iPod though are they? The marketing machine that are apple... My point was they've had this technology for YEARS, you can play video and do all the things this ipod can do on the OLD ipod if you just change the software, apple know how to play the market... :P
Haz
Looks new to me. It has a completely different case, smaller wheel, which is made by a Apple as oppsed to bought from Sysmantec, different hard drives, bigger screen, faster video processor, etc... I'd say that was new, in the same way the new BMW 5 series is a new car, just because it has the same badge... As for the technology thing. Why would you release it all at once, when you can do it gradually and make shed loads more money, it's not just Apple doing it, every mobile phone manufacturer does it. Apparently Intel have the technology to make a 6Ghz processor, but they can't make it reliable, how do you know it wasn't the same for the iPod?
