pogonation
I was just wondering if it is possible and easy to build a wheel yourself if you have the right length spokes and a completely true rim? (Y)

gavtrials
Build all my own wheels here too! Pretty much have done for the past 4 years easy, One major thing is a good jig is required to get everything spot on! Anyways good luck if u try it
Ali C
lol, I have never used a jig (Y) I just put the wheel in an old frame or fork and put a zip tie around ao there is a bit sticking out towards the rim, works well.

Mark W
I was just wondering if it is possible and easy to build a wheel yourself if you have the right length spokes and a completely true rim? (Y) Well, if it's not in a wheel whether it's true or not doesn't matter, 'cos if you build it incorrectly you're McBuggered anyway. It's really not that hard to do it, it sounds tech, but it's not at all. It's straight-forward and logical, so just set aside some time, concentrate on it and it's a piece of piss :P
Phatmike
I've built both my front and back wheels, done a few now. Once you know what you're doing, it's really not that bad. Just try and maintain an equal spoke tension all the way round. Like Sam suggested, sheldon brown is a great place to learn how to do it. It's the only resource I've ever used. (Y) I've not trued my front wheel since I ran a vee brake and had to, and not trued my rear wheel since just after I got it. (But that's mainly 'cause it's such an uber strong rim). Definately go for building your own wheels, it's a great skill to have, and it's pretty hard to cock up. Just make sure you get the spokes a decent tension, work slowly, and pre-stress it regularly. :P Mike.,
JT!
Never have, don't intend to learn. I'm just going to let tartybikes do them. (Y)

spangler
I have built two 48h bmx wheels the both came out perfect, but the first one i forgot to keep an eye on the tension after i built it, and the spokes worked lose and it died, but the second one is still going strong true as ever. The up and downs is where you have tightend some spokes more than others you should take it slow and turn then half a turn or a quarter of a turn each if your learning but once you understand the concept of lacing the spokes under over and which spoke goes where it's not that hard. ...and i used the g-sport guide because like was said earlier george likes his bicuits :ermm: g-sport Edited October 14, 2005 by spangler
