Tyre Preasures

Just thought I'd start a topic on this.

I use 55-60 PSI on rear and 40 PSI on the front. I havn't had one puncture since I run the rear that high with an EL-GATO. Running higher tyre preasures lets u roll faster and dosn't really affect grip in the dry that much but in the wet it's good to use a lower preasure.

If you're going to listen to anyone else's tyre pressures, I s'pose you should listen to these people...

Anyway, I loathe/despise soft tyres as much as I hate slack chains. I kinda prefer the more 'agressive' -or 'better' as I call it - feel to my bike, so having what's basically suspension doesn't fit in.

EDIT: Just looked up. Son of a...

Yeah, it seems whenever I go on rides I am the only mod rider who runs big pressures, ie 30 on the back with 40 on the front

hmmm

i have front and rear HOt tyres which to be fair are quite skinny and i use a low pressure cos i like the hoppy feel to my bike, its stif enough so i dony need ard tyres especially the front.

ask prawn how flat i have the front :D

anyway i cant be arsed to use a gauge i use my thumbs :- and use a football pump form giles sports as my track pump nearly took my eye out, gald i dont get that many punctures.

ally

p.s has the toolbar colours etc changed ?

Well i used to be a fan of this "Pump them up so they wont pop" attitude, until i tried lower pressures. I always used to like them, but used high pressures for pinch protection. Anywho, i thuogh i'd give it a go, so i bought a hutchinson DH tube to try, in my megablaster, at about 27psi (30 to be sure of getting no pinches :D ). Anywho, i ain't going back now - my bike feels just as i like it, and my riding's improved (especially gaps - maybe unrelated though  ).

I reckon everyone should at least give this setup a go, even the weight freaks (i went from hot S + latex tube to this setup - adds a fair bit of weight - about a pound, if not more), and if you like it, there's no going back :-

Oh the tube weighs 350g (i weighed it).

I'll second what Tomm says... I added about 500g to my rear tyre recently, and its great.

I used to run an F519 with Hot S and Latex tube... now im onto a 521 with Intense and standard tube... a good 850/900g heavier!! :D

Feels good though, cant complain!

(feck... i never thought it was that much :- )

i run 13-15psi in an elgato with a standard MTB tube..

no punctures in a while, just nice and squishy.

as you may have figured i dont ride street on this. i ride natural and it works a treat..

i did rim out on a 5ft drop though :-"

Not really.

You'll probably find a 519 is stronger sideways than a cheese rim. LTC_Dave is running one at the moment, and hes giving it plenty of stick, just like i gave mine :-

I’m finding I’m happier with 75 in the back (Luna 2.5 tyre with a standard tube…might need to get a Reluctant thick tube or something), and about 40 in the front. That’s primarily riding street. Might need to let her hiss for a bit before riding on rocks, I suppose.

Mark.
