Will Arnold
have you thought about getting a bmx as a get around bike? it may not be ideal, but after riding a trials bike everywhere its really nice :P
JT!
Get a low end Treck, like this. Very nice bikes.
Tomm
Get a road bike! I really want one. BMXs are ok, but they are really slow compared to proper bikes - Good for a couple of miles but no more.
Steve-A
Be inventive (bodge) :P When I needed similar, I built the attatched bike, it cost me about £200. I just had a good look in my shed and asked around. I got the frame and forks off a mate for £40 the pair, the forks at Judy Race, which are pretty nice forks, just a few years old. Had a spare stem and bars in the shed, along with a front hub. I got the rear wheel, normal halo build for £5 and the rim which was a bit dented for 30p, and so on. Then I spent a little money on new parts, like chain, grips, rear brake. I had a bike that worked perfectly well and got me to college and back comfortably for months at very little cost. matthewholdsworth
some of the best value bikes are giant, they are really well specced for the money, the rincon at £250 is far better than the similarly price scott yz3 (drive chain and forks plus pretty much everything else) only problem is that it is pretty disgusting colour. at £300 you could get a giant yukon, front and rear hayes hmx discs that actualy work well, much better than the shimano cable pull. its similar gearing to the rincon but the forks are better and discs brakes that work for that price cant be bad. if you look around though at this time of year you could probably find some good deals on the 2005 range that shops are selling off. yukon rincon hope this helps
