if it is just dietary supplements, i don't see the problem.

not that i have done or ever think i will, however if i was taking it more seriously i probably would look into it.

seems a bit O.T.T for a sport as i do as a past time for fun.

They are only there to give help to train, you can't just take all that crap and expect changes, you still need to train and work out and put the effort in, it just helps to gain the correct diet to give the maximum effect to your training so there is absolutely nothing wrong with taking anything like that and it should never be frowned on.

The only reason why myself and probably many other people don't use it because it's a pain in the ass, not literally, and stupidly expensive £100 for a tub, no thanks.

Phil.

Yeah, I've used pretty much every sports supplement on the go, including a few that have been banned now, but were legal when i cycled them.

At the moment I'm supplement free though :P :P :)

Spent several hundred at maximuscle lol

When your cycling EVERYTHING you get some crazy boosts in performance, not to mention I could live on like 3 hours sleep a night, but that was combined with technically perfect diet. You can get some harsh moments though. Few of my mates cycle illigal supps or steroids.

I go to the gym 5 times a week, been going for the last 5 months now

Iv seen a VERY big improvemt in my strength, performace whilst riding, muscle gain, and i dont really get tired when i go out riding now.

when i go into the gym i get a bottle of "maxi power" which is just a high energy drink, then when i come out, i get a milk shake called "power-up" which is loverly :P and your muscles pump to fook! lol

Looking at my arms, chest, shoulders and abs now... it works :P

5 months ago, my muscles were shit! lol

Im pretty skinny now, but I used to be like this >---|@ (very skinny). So last year I started going to the gym 3 times a week, eating lots of decent, high protein foods etc and I have put on some muscle :P I also took whey powder after a workout, which is kinda like powdered milk except its 80% protein - I think it helped :P

I will start going to the gym again when i go back to uni.

In the end it doesnt really make much difference, I used to work out constantly and have stacks of protein shakes and protein bars every day, but although it will make you look big and strong, I can now ride much bigger than I could while working out, probably because my muslces can move faster (your average work out of doing weights can hinder this, as many of the movements build up more static, or slow-moving power as opposed to the kinda fast-twitch explosive power you want for big trials moves).

I still take them though from time to time, just to help keep me looking good to the ladiiiieeessssssssss (for my gf)

Powerbar hydro plus drinking stuff and the gel's!!!! i used them for the last 4 months and i wouldnt ever use anything else, very very thirst quenching and it really does give you a lift the gels in particular are awesum!!!! you can be feleing drained have gel and a few swigs of the bottle and you'll be reyt.

best thing to do is trial and error with it, but that stuff your listing is SH1T!!! its probably full of illegal drugs, best with something desgin for cyclists and ridden by all the top teams in the tour de france and stuff you know that it works then. powerbar are a huge sponsor of th tour de france and alot of teams in it do use the SIS stuff too. but its powerbar all the way for me.

Waynio.........................

there are plans also that you can have th follwoing:

a before the event kinda thing......

during an event stuff

and then you have the repair stuff

the guy who posted before me on about the protein stuff, like a milk shake kinda thing, yes its great, its something you would use AFTER excercise as protein is helping your body repair after workout or excercise. its also usually nice to have like a milkshake afterwards as milk is good for you and the protein stuff mixes in with the milk top job if you ask me.

im sure they will have a higher concentrate of things in them to keep you bouncing off the walls though??? as what you want is the energy to last. you can like have a full days use of energy and protein filled supplements and you would have energy when needed. i tried it and it works for me so im happy i just thort others may want to have an idea of the kinda stuff yo need to have etc etc.

5 times a week is too much really, as you can't possibly be taking a rest day after each workout. for some strange reason, people think working out every day is god for them (Y) i workout 3 times a week, wednesday friday and sunday, working different muscle groups each day (eg triceps, chest, shoulders on wednesday, then biceps, back etc on friday)

as for the supplements, there is no point in taking them unless you are serious about your diet and your workouts. i could talk about it for ages, but it gets quite complicated. packing on loads of muscle isnt realy a big help for trials (my stamina has got worse since i started working out properly) which is becuase you gain mass, which in turn causes your body to burn more energy. you cant have both, which is the reason why long distance runners are built like twigs (to prevent their bodies burning excessive amounts of energy which cannot be replenished during a race) wheras 100 metre sprinters are huge (to give them a massive power surge for a short period of time)

i started using maximuscle a year ago (creatamax 800GL) but stopped due to the expence, then went suplent free for a while, and now i'm using Weider muscle builder

i'm gonna be picky and tell you the Faults about your training schedule.

If you train chest shoulders and triceps in one day, once you have trained the first (lets say chest), you absolutely waste your chest muscles in order to build the muscles. To do this you waste your triceps also. This will seriously impair the quality of training you can give to your shoulders. You won't be able to lift anywhere near as much weight as if you were fresh because your triceps are fatigued, so your shoulders will suffer.

I did this for several years with massive success, as did 90% of the people in my gym...

Monday, chest, biceps.

(chest utilises triceps, so go all out on chest and your triceps will pay (Y) ) Biceps as they are fresh to be trained.

Tuesday, legs

legs are fresh and your chest, triceps and biceps are unused so can recover much better.

Wednesday, cardio

(riding, swimming, or don't even do it)

Thursday, shoudlers, triceps

Triceps have had 3 days rest and you can now perform enough to give a good shoulder workout without triceps limiting your lift. Train triceps individually if you want to, no more that 9 sets after training shoulders.

Friday, back.

Back is another bicep using muscle group when you train. Your back is fresh to train and your biceps have been rested once again for 3 days.

Everyone trains different, but if you look at what rest you get between training for each muscle, you can come up with a formula like this to give maximum rest for each body part :P

I have a recommendation for an upper body work out which involves time spent carrying an increasingly heavy todder in one arm, whilst I get breakfast/do the washing up/tidying away stuff!

He's walking all over the shop now and is trying to eat everything he finds so I have to keep my eye, or rather an eye on him sometimes!

Another work out routine is running around on all fours, roaring like a Gruffalo (it makes him laugh as do all "Scary creatures" that roar like Tigers and Dinosaurs!) to help with suppleness.

EDIT: Check out that song vid on the Gruffalo site! That's me in a weeks time that is....

bongo that was very informative, im now not signing upto a gym i will use mine alot more, and i will send you a cheque for the workout procedures :P it does make sense in what you are saying too, i used to do it but used to do it every night and always do the same like reps of 50 on arms/legs/shoulders etc. and was finding which i felt was a good thing that by thursday i was knackerd!!!! but i eased off doing that and started using the bike alot more as part of my training now im out like most nights for a good hour or two and even go home and do a bit of training too.

another good help are these powerballs for trials riders and wrists there great iv been using one for the last 8/9months and my wrists just dont seem to have any problems any more. and there is no arm pump. this all ties in with using the powerbar gels/hydro plus drink and the protein plus stuff too.
