Uci Worlds

Basically I would really like to go to some UCI events, the worlds next year and any other UCI events really. They just look really good fun.

But to ride the UCI worlds do you have to be part of a team, like with the BIU worlds you have to be on the british team. So I wanted to know if you have to be selected, and if so how??

Basically any info on entering UCI worlds and other events would be really helpfull. I know a few of you have been so give me the low down.

(Y) :D

EDIT: Also from my understanding there are only 2 catogories, Men and Junior, is this right?? So I would have to ride with kenny and vince as Im 19??

you need a uci license...... im assuming your over 18.... so thatl be 60 quid... (im under 18 so its half price)

you get given your team tracksuit and riding top... which you have to wear at european champs and world champs... but NOT world cups... i recommend starting with the world cups next year.. they are the most enjoyable... we always have a laugh at them.. and the sections will be good..

i doubt you will want to do the worlds next year as its in new zealand...

if your doing it i would get practising.... i had a shock when i rode my first uci event... but my level hasbeen brought up so much since then because i know what to train etc etc

EDIT: just seen your edit

youl ride with kenny and vince etc.. but everyone rides the same route at world cups no matter what age...

so even though im 16 i still compete against vince etc etc... even though they dont ride qualifcation because they are in the top 8..

there is 2 world championships..

youth games

and world champs

at youth games there is the cadet, minime, benjamin.. all the little kids categories.. which is what i rode this year..

world champs : junior and elite only... next year will be in new zealand... so i recommend sarting off by doing a couple of the world cups before you get into it...

£60 is quite a bit. But probally worth it. So you dont have to get selected for a uk team or anything then?? You just get your Licence and you can ride??

I only want to do a few, should be a good laugh.

If you have a British UCI licence then you can enter any UCI event worldwide. You will have to contact each countries UCI organisation to get entry forms, eg FFC in France, or BC in the UK.

The cost of the licence is steep (compared to BIU) but the insurance you get with it is second to none! Remember UCI run ALL cycle events at the Olympics as well!

If you have a UCI licence and you are on the e-mail list at British Cycling, then you should get an e-mail asking you if you want to enter the next event. I know I got one for the Madrid event!!!! lol

For the Worlds, there is usually a team manager who will help BC sort out who is riding etc.

Best bet is contact British Cycling, and apply for a racing licence.

In short, yes there is a selection criteria for the members of the British Team however, there has never been more demand than there has places. However this may change!

Selection would go off results from World Ranking from World events then UCI rules competition run in England.

But there are no UCI rules competitions happening in the UK at the moment (yes I know about freds fort bill thing and Tech 04) but their is no UCI club to run a qualification system similiar to other countries like France or Germany.

Basically in no particualr order in 2005 the british team consisted of,

Ben Slinger

Danny Butler

Ashley Butler

Rob Poyser

John Evans

Austin Wright

"Peter" Andrei Burton

Ben Savage

Danny had some good rides in world cups to make the finals

Ash and Aust were ranked #4 in the world

Ben Savage was European Champ

Slingshot got himselfa couple of T shirts

Rob, Andrei and myself managed to survive and came out with some good rides and overall rankings

Hope that helps
