Hobnobs
Hey. My bmx chum wants a magura on the rear of his bike. He also wants to know how and what he needs to do to make it so that he can run a magura on his U brake mounts. Ive heard you just run the evo mounts upside down, but dont really want to spend £30 and then find out it doesnt work. Has anyone done this before? Mr Motivator
You have to run them upside down. If he doesn't even have brake bosses and just has a small hole in the frame where the U brakes are bolted on, then he will need a V plate, which you can get from any decent BMX shop. Hobnobs
Is that it? Im sure i read you had to change the mounts themselves, by sanding them or something. Ah well, sounds cool.

matheprat
I did it on mine, but it's way more complicated than just turning them upside down (this puts the brake pads too high on the braking surface, so they rub against the tyre). I used the really old evo mounts, without the splined elbows as they are slightly longer, and basically drilled/sawed them down so they would fit into the lugs, and so there would be enough clearance between the corner of the Evo mount and the chain. Worked ok in the end though! javascript:emoticon(':turned:', 'smid_4') smilie
bones_dt4
alright mate Yeah you can put maggies on U-brake mounts. I bought a magura off a mate once for a tenner and thought i might fit it to the bmx. You haveto turn the mounts the other way round though, and if i remember rightly, you haveto file the mounts so that they fit. Took a while, but u might be lucky and not even havewto file them. If you want a booster, it should be easy enough to work out how to fit that. hope that helps :turned:
PaRtZ
OK now that the question has been answered, can I hijack the thread and ask why it doesn't make sense to put maguras on bmx's? is it purely the damage aspect?
TomN
Be better if your mate just get some better pads say like heatsink vees just like what bongo uses and they seem fine on him.
mat hudson
the heatsinks are grabby as hell on a clean or chrome rim, so are v flys and crv's :)
CurtisRider
crvs-wooooooot wooooot :) my bmx makes a hella cool sound with them on-its very useful for scaring old ladies spanish flies are inf**kingcredible to :P dont bother with a maggy-you dont need it, with all that bar spin tomfoolery you will rip the hose, they dont have enuff modulation for manuals and they arent necessary, a well set up u brake(oddyssey evolvers are cheap and good) with some decent pads will be hella good, for no money+wont rip apart/look wank :P
totaltrials
OK now that the question has been answered, can I hijack the thread and ask why it doesn't make sense to put maguras on bmx's? is it purely the damage aspect? Basically you really dont need them, you can get some good U brakes, like oddyseys and some decent pads, and they will work really well, most cases you just dont need it as the only corners you use your brake on are copings and if your brake slips on that your not doing it properly, so ye, it's not needed, and again the damage aspect when you crash or spin your bars. poopipe
you cant run maggies through a gyro either but then i spose all these new school bmx type dont bother with stuff like that.. - bring back chrome and 4 piece bars i say
Bergia
Make sure it will acutally fit as my mate had canti mounts yet the evo mounts still didn't fit and he tried every way possible. Best option is just to get a decent brake and better pads.
