trialsguru
right i bled my brake today, all went fine, set it up but now when i back hop, wheel swap, just generally using the brake theres a weird knocking noise coming from the calipers, sounds like the pistons are rattling inside the caliper :bunny: have i done something wrong? can i fix it? cheers! nb88
Could be the pads moving in the caliper? hold the brake and roll the wheel backwards and forwards
aust
sounds like the pads moving in the caliper to me.. its normal.. nothing to worry about

nb88
Did you move the pads further out maybe? so they have more play. Try holding the brake and move the wheel backwards and forwards with ur hand, see if the pads make a noise.
trialsguru
yer but its never done it before thats the thing. its louder than the pads moving about as that was the first thing i looked at, could it be possible that the seals have gone? trialsguru
checked it today and theres a fair amout of play in the pistons, is it possible that the seals have perished? can i buy replacement ones? will4eva7k
try re-setting up the brakes unless ur using rimjams which have broken clippings believe me - its scary to ride with pads with broken clips (i didnt know mine wre broken) thats when i found out it was the pads making the clicking noise
trialsguru
im fairly 100% sure its not the pads. there was no noise on sunday, but i bled it monday and now theres play in the pistons. bareing in mind this brakes about 4/5 years old , can replacement seals be bout or is it new brake time? quick_spider
Slave Cylinders aren't user servicable. The seals can go on them, but it's quite unlikely. You'd also notice a loss of fluid. Take the pads off and see if there is oil on the back of them. Try and find out where the noise is coming from - for something to make a noise like you describe, you should be able to see play in something. What do you mean by there is play in the pistons? Maguras can make a thud when the pad contacts with the rim, particularly if the wheel isn't moving at the time. Jon
trialsguru
when i pull the lever and the pistons are out i can wiggle them lol. owell hopefully it might go away, i just cant see it being the pads cos its only since i bled it that the noise started
quick_spider
You can wiggle the pistons? or the pads? If you can wiggle the pistons, there should be oil pissing everywhere. If it's the pads then check the locating tabs are in tact and stop worrying. Jon

poopipe
how do know it was scary then, if you didnt know they were broken?? he has a good point. on a related note - if you can wiggle the pistons you're probably in trouble - if its just the pads then that'll explain the noise.. on an unrelated note can you post a pic of your arse please joe - ive been reading that signature for ages and im curious to know how much better than mine it is cos the missus says mine's perfect.
