joe b
Hello, im thinking about getting some winter pads, for wet weather etc. Now i've been told that the different colours are different compounds and i've been told they aren't aswell :S . So you might be able to tell i'm a little confused! From what i've heard performance in wet and dry, and wear rate of the Koxx red pads is the best. But if anyone else could shed some light from their experiences with the other coloured pads the that would be dandy. :) Cheers in advance, Joe. narrowbars
I run koxx brown pads all year round.
mad_gavo
i had reds and went back to browns as they work just as well and last twice as long if run on a grind. Which you have to with all koxx pads really :S
Burton
I found that reds worked better, than the browns, without an uber deep grind.

manuel
what pads are the longest lasting pads money can buy for use with a grind - performance is no issue - i want long lasting. Soz to steal the thread. Its just I wonder alot of people swear by (not at) Kock blocks
Tom Booth
plaz crms rowan??? last a lifetime and perfom ace! CurtisRider
koxx browns for sure, the best winter pad for a magura i found, good all year round, but id rather run plaz for the summer as they have the edge over browns methinks ill have to get some koxx browns fitted into my v backings :S
downhill_rob2@hotmail.com
I am VERY sick and tired of buying new pads every 3-4 weeks!!!! :) :) :S I had some Koxx browns, all set up to perfection, and only lasted me about 2 months, which is the longest i have ever had any pads!!! Iv had Plaz CRM (just got rid of them tonight) Put them on, on a freh grind (not too rough) and they shot apart in 5 mins!!!! :S :) :) but the they stopped, and worn down a little bit slower, one pad has quite abit left on, the other is on the backings, (bearing in mind, the brake was set up to perfection, hitting rim square on and stuff) But the brake still wasnt even that good :S   Im sooooo f**king pissed off!!!! I dont know what pads to get next? Maybe koxx browns on a very light grind?

Do you just ride round with the brake on or something  Koxx Compounds = Koxx brown Koxx Green Koxx Blue Koxx Red Koxx yellow, being the softest. Or so i was told. Mark W
Brown <- Hardest Blue Green Red Yellow <- Softest So the story goes. Koxx Greens rock my world. They're properly ace pads... For long lasting though, my Plaz CRMs on the front haven't shown any signs of wear in the last 5-6 months or so. I've had a grind on all that time, and they just don't seem to be wearing, which seems largely impossible. Sometimes they're good in the wet and sometimes they aren't, but I didn't pay for 'em and they keep working, so who's keeping score... CurtisRider
terror error: all you need is a light grind and decent setup, ive tried hearsh grinds and found them to be worse in terms of pad wear, performance and also its a quicker way to destroy you rim....light grinds seem to work better, maybe cos theres more pad surface area touching? anyway, to be honest by the way your plaz pads have worn, it sounds just like a poor setup-i may be wrong but alot of people really dont seem to be able to set up brakes right, they seem to think 'ahh its roughly inline thatll do', maguras espeacially need a eye on them to check on movement-dont forget if you adjust your wheel, its likely that 1 side will be closer to the brake calliper than the other (being a mod rider) not a dig, just from observation Edited October 2, 2005 by pauloliver
downhill_rob2@hotmail.com
Nah i never do, i think im just VERY unlcuky!!! lol Or maybe the fact i used to grind my rim VERY VERY VERY rough 2 times a week? :S lol Thats maybe why my rim dints like a fooker! lol EDIT: why is my lever so spongey? lol I have just rebled it tonight with 100% no air in it, and it spongier than when it was like 50% air in it :) Edited October 2, 2005 by terror-error
Mark W
Or maybe the fact i used to grind my rim VERY VERY VERY rough 2 times a week? Why the f**k do you do that? :S If your rim's so shit it can't hold a grind for more than 3 days, maybe get a different rim?

Mark W
"Right at the time", with "the time" being twice a week for the last however long you've been "going through pads in 3-4 weeks"?
downhill_rob2@hotmail.com
Meh, just been out to see if i could set my brake up any better, i did a little bit, but it still doesnt work as good as it should do!!! Maybe to do with the fact i have 1 plaz pad and 1 heatsink blue pad? dont know, but fook it, im off to watch tele!! Bye
Alex.loves.boys
keep with browns joe. :S best ever. alex
Pauly
personally im going to say koxx blues they are the best pads ive ever had and ive had crms, koxx browns, koxx greens, jam bles, jam greens, heatsink blues and a few more and the blues piss all over every other pad ive used the koxx greens come up second though the greens dont offer as much hold and they dont work in the wet in my eyes with my blues im quite happy to do gaps sidehops taps ect in the pissing rain Pauly
dave33
iv had kox browns for about 2 year now and still about half left and alway ride with a grind, quite harsh. i find them really good but they do slip now and then not amazing hold but brakes are good enough, i found the best pads to be monty x hydra's
downhill_rob2@hotmail.com
Yeah, but dont the X-hydras only have the short pad? they are really small :( :S I wouldnt trust them! lol I think im going to get a new rim, get some more CRM's on a fine grind, see how that works :bunny:
Mark W
X-Hydras are 35mm long, and I've never heard of them coming out of the backings, basically. They were amazing pads... my first set lasted me bloody ages, but then I got a grind and they died fairly quickly. Last pair lasted about 3 days, but they were the grippiest pads I've ever used. Amazing in the wet too!
AdamR28
X-Hydras are 35mm long, and I've never heard of them coming out of the backings, basically. Strange, I've rarely heard of them staying on the backing, haha. The ones I had worked pretty good on a clean (clean ONLY - any dust and the brake was terrible) Mavic CD rim. Wouldn't like to try them on a grind though, pretty sure they wouldn't last long. As for the 50mm versions, I once disassembled a set to nick the backings - I had the fright of my life when I saw they weren't even recessed 1mm!! Rob: Grind your rim, set the brakes up, and leave them. You don't need uber-fresh grinds with CRMs :bunny: Every time you re-set the brake up, it has to bed in, and this destroys pads unless theyre perfectly square (impossible really). dave33
they come in 35mm and 50mm they have different names but i think they are the same compound, you cant buy them any more
