Frame Shapes

The kink, if made properly (like they are on the Onza, Mission, Kot, Coustellier, Monty, etc. frames), doesn't reduce the strength of the frame on the kink, but it DOES increase stand-over height.

Basically, when you start getting into doing big ol' sidehops, you'll need more stand-over height to crouch down more on the bike when you land on top of the object. If you look at CLS's site, and at the pics pages, you can see him doing a 53" sidehop and really cranking the bike over. With a higher top-tube, this wouldn't be possible.

Also, gapping and upping would be harder too, just 'cos you'd get hit in the knackers by the frame all the time.

Therefore, making more stand-over height is a good idea. A fairly gentle bend in the top-tube like on the T-Bird/Prodigy/T-Raptor/Reefer frames means that you get more stand-over, without reducing the stresses that like cutting and welding the tubes half-way down would.

It's all good

Its to get more standover height (bollock clearance  ) without having a stupidly small frame. A gently curved top tube like in the t-bird isnt much of a problem as far as strength goes.

Wondered if it had something 2 do with the guys downstairs lol thnx alot ;)

i know you say you dont want a tiny frame but i think one could be quite fun, if you realy cut the bike down to nothing it would be interestin to see how big you could go lol...

Giant made a proto bike ages ago that had one tube, from front to rear. Was like a weird monocoque design. It was shit, flexy, and didn't work, but it might've been a step in the right direction. If you look at the '06 Pitbull, you can see just how dinky frames are getting now.

Only downside is that they're right bastards to fit on bike racks on cars, 'cos usually you'd do like "inside front of front triangle and by seat-stay join to seat-tube" or similar, but I can't now with my new Zona Zip 'cos there's a big ol' CNC'd sideplate in the way.

Bike rack mod ahoy...

Anyway, I'd rather have a nice riding bike than one that fitted on racks perfectly anyway, so it's all good
