Chris King Ringdrive Grease

Recommended Posts

Just given my king hub a quick service, cleaned out all the splines etc with WD40, and now it definately sounds louder. I used a tiny bit of castrol everyman light oil on the splines instead of the tr-flo they recommend, and didnt clean out the ringdrive so much so that the old grease is still in there. But i wanna get some ringdrive grease so i can service it properly....anyone know where i can get it in the UK, or anyone know of very good replacements? I heard Finish line green XC wet lube is good - should i use this instead?

Thanks.

Gonna try and not bodge it as much as possible really..... cant find anywhere in the uk that sells the official grease  . the castrol stuff is fine for the diagonal nothces on the driver/hub though.

Would carbon-based grease work maybe? I've cleaned it all out again properly and just need some grease to put in it now.

And won't make your hub skip like a little girl as soon as it gets cold!

Do you use 10w oil in your kings then tarty? i bought some 10w/30 car motor oil from my local car shop, £4 for a litre. Seems to have worked alright, quite loud and i only put a few drops on the splines and the engagement bit. It sounds more 'clicky' than before, instead of just a wurr noise...

If it keeps skipping after this lil service ill probably send the wheel over to you, need that wheelbuild done still anyway

Flush the whole thing out with WD40, wipe out as much as you can from inside the hubshell, and then pop you're finger through and open up a gap in the ring drive, flood it with WD40 and then drip in a little Finishline Wet XC. Put the driveshell back in and give it a quick spin, pull it off again and shake as much as you can out of the ring drive and mop it all up with a lint free rag  Re-assemble and off you go. After the first ride, you'll soon probably see lube seeping out of the cone adjusting thing but thats ok, just wipe it everynow and again untill enough has been squeezed out :S

Mine hasnt skipped for about 3 months since I last did this ^^
